💙 Wisdom Wednesday 💙

One of the biggest mistakes parents can make is comparing their child’s progress to someone else’s.

Every athlete is different.

Some children pick up new skills in a matter of days. Others may take weeks, months, or even years to master the exact same skill. Some athletes will eventually reach advanced tumbling levels, while others may simply enjoy the sport for fitness, friendships, and fun—and that’s perfectly okay.

There is no magic timeline that tells us when a child will get a back walkover, back handspring, or tuck. Genetics, body awareness, flexibility, strength, confidence, fear, maturity, focus, and work ethic all play a role.

Instead of asking, “Why isn’t my child where that athlete is?” ask, “Is my child making progress from where they started?”

Celebrate the small victories. Encourage the effort. Build their confidence.

If you have questions about your athlete’s progression, talk with their coach! We are always happy to discuss where they are in their journey and what they can work on to continue improving.

Remember, 55 minutes a week doesn’t create great athletes. The athletes who progress the fastest are often putting in extra work through strength training, flexibility, drills at home, private lessons, or multiple classes each week.

Most importantly, remove the expectations and comparisons. Let your child enjoy the journey, trust the process, and fall in love with learning.

Progress isn’t a race—it happens one skill, one correction, and one victory at a time. 💪🦈

🚨 TRUST THE PROCESS. MASTER THE BASICS. 🤸‍♀️💙🦈

In gymnastics, tumbling, and cheer…there are no shortcuts to greatness.

Every cartwheel, handstand, roundoff, back walkover, and back handspring is part of a carefully designed progression that comes before more advanced skills like tucks/lays/twisting. These progressions aren’t meant to slow athletes down—they’re designed to keep them safe while building the strength, technique, and body awareness needed for advanced skills.

When athletes skip steps or rush to the next trick before mastering the fundamentals, they often develop bad habits that become difficult to correct later. Even worse, poor technique significantly increases the risk of injury.

At CXA, we believe in quality over speed. We would rather an athlete have beautiful, technically correct basics than rush into skills they aren’t physically prepared to perform.

Strong basics create:
⭐ Better body control
⭐ Increased confidence
⭐ Safer training
⭐ Faster long-term progression
⭐ Higher-level skills with proper technique

Remember: The athletes with the strongest fundamentals are almost always the ones who become the strongest competitors in the future.

Progress isn’t measured by how quickly you get a skill—it’s measured by how well you build the foundation that supports every skill that comes after it.

💥🦈 RAESLAY IS ON FIRE! 🦈💥

From Level 1 to chasing Level 3 skills in just a few short months! 🔥

When Rae joined us back in January, she had only Level 1 tumbling skills. Through consistency, determination, and countless hours of hard work, she’s already making incredible progress and just landed an exciting new tumbling skill on the rod floor! 🤸‍♀️✨

This is what happens when dedication meets great coaching and an athlete refuses to give up. We couldn’t be more proud of the effort Rae puts in every single practice!

Sometimes the smallest athletes make the biggest progress. 💙🩷

At Coastal Xtreme Athletics, our Tiny Fins Movement Academy is about so much more than learning gymnastics. It’s about building confidence, independence, coordination, listening skills, friendships, and a love for movement that can last a lifetime.

Today’s shy little 3-year-old who needs Mom’s hand may be tomorrow’s confident athlete running onto the floor with a huge smile and saying, “Watch me!” ✨
