It’s National Florida Day! National Florida Day is celebrated on January 25 every year. The day was established to recognize Florida’s arrival as the 27th state. We aren’t entirely sure why, since Florida joined the Union on March 3, 1845. But we’ll take it, we ❤️Florida and celebrate it every day! 🍊🍊🍊

Rice’s Whale facts

Rice's whales are members of the baleen whale family, and they are the only resident baleen whale in the Gulf of Mexico. They are closely related to Bryde’s whale, so closely related that they were thought to be Bryde's whales until scientists in 2021 determined them to be a distinct species.

Fewer than 50 of these magnificent mammals remain, making Rice's whales one of the most endangered whales in the world — yet they have no federally protected critical habitat. Designating critical habitat is essential to giving these whales the space they need to survive — and, one day, thrive again.
