Would've been the perfect day for a baseball game. Huge thanks to my crew for all their hard work leading up to opening Day on April 5th.

Growth blankets came off today, couldn’t be happier with the color. Newly sodded areas from last fall are showing the best color. Rye grass areas are still a bit behind, but will look better after a few mowings. Skin is still somewhat soft but will firm up with the temperatures this weekend. Soil temperatures averaging about 45 degrees. First action on the field is March 26th, exhibition game vs. Kansas City Royals.

What a week we had. The field hosted a total of 8 high school games for the State High School Baseball tournament between Sunday and Monday. The rest of the week we dealt with rain, a lot of it. We played three double headers, due to two rainouts. All in all we ended up with 3.75" of rain, only one day in which we did not receive any rain. The tarp went on or off the field 14 times. The turf in front of the mound and around the plate took a beating, and we ended up re-sodding those areas the first day after the team left. Here's to hoping June brings us better weather.

84 degrees on Sunday was short lived. Fired up the irrigation system on Sunday. Solid tine aerated today, and top-dressed about 20 tons of sand. Hopefully it adds some protection to the crown as we are expected to cool down the rest of this week.

First day on the field this winter, took the growth blankets off the infield and foul territory. Got a chance to mow for the first time, very happy with how things are shaping up, minus the field mice maze we found in left field in our new sod.
