Great update from Wood County Schools: As work continues at the Erickson All-Sports Facility, we wanted to share a few updates and provide some additional context about the project.

Turf was overwhelmingly selected as the No. 1 priority for the new baseball and softball fields by both Parkersburg South High School and the Erickson All-Sports Facility Committee. However, the original plans did not have turf in the infields. Both entities recognized the significant benefits of turf, particularly the ability to host more tournaments and provide reliable playing conditions following periods of rain. It was understood that, in order to remain within the bond budget, other potential projects—including a concession stand—would need to be left out. The Erickson All-Sports Facility Committee has chosen to fundraise independently for a concession stand so that it can be added in the future without impacting the bond-funded project.

The sprinkler system has now been installed, and the components needed for the backflow preventer have arrived and will be installed soon. Once the sprinkler system is complete, the Parkersburg Utility Board will turn on the water. Greenleaf Landscapes will then test the sprinkler system for leaks, remove weeds from the outfield, and plant grass.

A few additional points about the facility:

Property: The property for the baseball and softball fields was purchased by Wood County Schools from the Erickson All-Sports Facility Development Corporation for $135,000. The Erickson All-Sports Development Corporation then contributed $325,000 toward the $425,000 cost of lighting for both fields.

Parking: Parkersburg South High School and the Erickson All-Sports Facility Committee agreed that the initial priority for parking was to provide ADA-compliant spaces for patrons. Additional general parking will be paved over a period of years as part of summer paving projects until the parking lot is paved.

We appreciate the community’s continued interest in the Erickson All-Sports Facility and look forward to seeing these fields take shape and become a valuable resource for our students, schools and community.

Can you say COMMUNITY SUPPORT?!! More like community obsession! Mineral Wells Baseball & Softball had their "Opening Day" for youth baseball and softball. An AMAZING turn-out for these kids! The day started at 10:00 am and last games were at 4:00 pm. The list of organizers is long, but major shout-out to Jerad Ruble, Kyle Inman, Adam Cooper, & softball/baseball parents!! Perfect weather for a perfect event - all to raise money for the Erickson All-Sports Facility to help pay for the new baseball & softball fields. And it's gonna be just perfect!! The reward for NEVER giving up! GDTBAP!!

Been working on this plaque since 1993 - 2025. The Donor Plaque for the football/soccer/track stadium is now in place in time for the first PSHS football game in 2026. 920 names of individuals, businesses, memorials, or groups, and 42 Board of Directors are listed if you donated $100 or more to build the facility. The huge plaque is mounted on the wall directly across from the "home" concession stand. THANK YOU ALL!!! We have a BEAUTIFUL facility for our kids!

With a couple days to spare, we have met Kyle Inman’s challenge!

Thanks to Kyle and Modern Woodmen for stepping up and investing in the future with us here at Erickson.

We have received a total of $4,250 in this challenge! Thanks to everyone for stepping up also.

There’s still a couple of days left! Let’s see how much more we can go over the goal between now and then!

Our Erickson fundraisers for the new ballfields are going great! Almost to the goal as there are many projects going on behind the scenes. It's AMAZING how well the Southside communities support their kids/teams!! We aren't giving up until the baseball & softball fields are fully equipped. If you haven't already donated, please consider it to say, "I helped make it happen!" SOUTHSIDE PATRIOT PRIDE!! ⚾️🥎
