hi all,

we’ve watched as the events of the last week unfolded in altadena and in the palisades. we all have deep roots in these communities and are beyond heart broken. so many of our community members, friends, and family have lost everything. the destruction is unimaginable. this post is slightly out of date as some of the national guard check point lifted this afternoon and residents have been allowed to return to some areas. please take a moment to read through our post and share. we are open to any and all ways we can help people move towards a resemblance of normalcy after this disaster.

a note from team zen

hi divers!

it is crazy to be here nearing the end of 2025. for a number of reasons this year has been long and tiresome for so many of us. with that being said we can all say that this year has been full of some wonderful dive adventures and incredible memories with so many of you.

speaking of memories we were recently shocked to hear about the loss of m/v nouran, our home away from home in the red sea with red sea explorers. the vessel was a complete loss after a massive fire erupted and quickly engulfed the vessel. all passengers and crew were able to safely egress the vessel and were picked up by the nouran's sister ship m/v tala. we are deeply saddened by the loss of this amazing boat and we are sending our thoughts and love to our red sea explorers family. many of you have shared incredible memories with us on the nouran and those memories will live on in our stories, photos, and videos. thanks for sharing in the good times. we hope to return to the red sea in the not so distant future.

Black Friday Sale

We're not typically one for Black Friday sales. In years past we have encouraged our divers to get outside and go diving rather than feeding the capitalistic nightmare that is a day of shopping on Black Friday. We have had people ask every year if we will be offering any sort of sale so this is our small concession to our normal operations. This year we will be open under limited operating hours until 5 pm to offer you 10% off store wide on in stock items and 5% off on special orders.

4th Annual Holiday Party

Another year another holiday party! Every year is an extravaganza and this year will be no different. Please join us Saturday, December 14th at 5 pm for holiday cheer, food, beverage, good times, and good friends. All are welcome and we encourage you to bring food or beverage to contribute to the spread. The evening is a family friendly affair so bring everyone. Please reach out with any questiions!

Toys for Tots

Our holiday charity drive this year is for Toys for Tots. Between now and our holiday party on December 14th we are collecting new and unopened toys. For every toy you bring (up to four) we will give you a free air or nitrox fill! Doubles fills requires two toys.

Avalon Harbor Underwater Cleanup

This year's Avalon Harbor Underwater Clean-up is Saturday, February 22nd. We will hopefully have another huge turn out. Last year we had over 40 participants in our group. Sign-ups are open. Follow the link below to register. Make sure you select zen dive co as your club and step beach as your site.

it is just too darn hot!

Hi Divers!

We have had beyond uncomfortable heat this week. It has been in excess of 100 degrees for the past week. This weekend is calling for 110 degree heat and for the safety and comfort of everyone we have decided to postpone our end of summer bbq to Saturday, September 28th at 5 pm. Hopefully the weather is a little more bearable then.

Casino Point Dive Day

Our last Casino Point meetup was a huge success with so many friends new and old coming out for a fun day of diving. We're doing it again Sunday, August 11th. Our crew will be taking the 6:00 am ferry from Long Beach to Avalon and the 5:30 pm ferry back. Let us know if you need assistance making ferry reservations or if you have any questions.

Dive the Giant Stride Dive Boat

We have a few upcoming trips on the Giant Stride dive boat leaving from San Pedro. This vessel carries 6 passengers and makes for a fun intimate dive day in the waters around San Pedro and Catalina Island. See dates below!

Dive the Spectre Dive Boat

We have a few upcoming trips on the Spectre dive boat leaving from Port Hueneme in Ventura. Expect a hot breakfast, delicious BBQ lunch, hot brownie sundae, and a toasty hot tub onboard. See dates below!

End of Summer BBQ

As we enter September summer starts to wind down with our annual end of summer bbq. Please join us Saturday, September 7th for a day of eats, treats, and games. As always you can enjoy burgers, dogs, veggies options, snacks, and an assortment of beverages. We encourage you to bring a little something to drop on the grill or throw in the cooler. Drag along your friends, family, pets, and dive buddies for an afternoon of hanging out at the shop.

Come Together Cleanup Dive

Most divers in Southern California know and love shore diving at Veteran's Park in Redondo Beach. We are organizing a huge cleanup effort to come together and show our respect and admiration for a dive site that we all frequent. In collaboration with local dive shops, equipment manufacturers, non-profits, and public safety agencies we are putting our resources together for this very special day. Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 15th. More info to come, stay tuned!

Women's Dive Day

Join Jamie and Katie (aka thedrysuitlady) on Saturday, July 20th for a very special day dedicated to the women divers in our community. We will be taking the Raptor Dive Boat to the Channel Islands National Park for 3 dives, good times, and good friends. We will be hosting a raffle giving away dive gear and participants will take home a little goodie bag!

Shark Education & Safety Seminar

One of the most common questions we all get as divers is "DO YOU SEE SHARKS?!?!" and while that answer isn't a simple yes or no, we all have a great love or admiration of sharks. Team zen will be hosting renowned shark scientist and researcher Carmen Koepfer for an informational presentation on sharks and shark safety. Come expand your shark knowledge on Thursday, July 18th at 7 pm.

Krafts by Katie

Our Katie (aka thedrysuitlady) is hosting yet another lovely craft night on Saturday, July 13th at 6 pm. For this installment she will be joined by zen dive co. instructor and international origami sensation Chris Alexander for an evening of intense ocean themed paper folding. Chris is known for his Star Wars origami and incredible sense of humor. Paper will be provided! You won't want to miss this!

Casino Point Dive Day

We're getting the band back together! Well, not a band but a giant crew of divers! Team zen will be out at Casino Point on Sunday, July 21st for a fun day of diving and we want you there. Come out, bring your dive buddy or find a new one. Make your ferry reservations today! We will be on the 6 am departure from Long Beach and the 3:55 pm return from Avalon. Just book your ferry ticket and we'll see ya there! Let us know if you need help booking ferry tickets.

Tie-dye!

You are cordially invited to a Summer Kraft Night with Katie!

Summer is upon us and that means its time to express your true colors by dying something you don't really wear and turning it into your favorite summer garb. Come join us for a fun-filled evening of tie-dying!

We are providing tie-dye materials but not the "things being dyed" so please bring something to dye! We will have light snacks and refreshments available.

This event is $5 for non-club members and free to zen dive club members.
