Trakr was retired when he deployed to Ground Zero on 9/11. The Canadian dog had already had a distinguished career as a K9, having found over 1 million dollars worth of contraband prior to his retirement in May 2001. But, as they drove 15 hours to offer to help, neither Trakr or his handler officer James Symington knew that the value of his previous finds would pale in comparison to the worth of what they would find in NY. Trakr was the dog who found the last survivor, Genelle Guzman-McMillan, at Ground Zero. The work was hard on Trakr, he collapsed from smoke inhalation and suffered burns. After two days his handler decided to return to Canada with Trakr, but the importance of their find was absolutely priceless. Today, we honor Trakr.

Roselle was asleep under her owner's desk on the 78th floor in Tower 1 of the World Trade Center when the attack commenced. She was awakened by the plane impacting some fifteen floors above them. Roselle calmly helped Hingson to stairwell B, despite the smoke, confusion and noise surrounding her.

She led her owner and 30 other people down 1,463 steps out of the tower. After descending over half the distance, they passed the firemen who were heading up, who Roselle stopped to greet. The descent took just over an hour. Just after they exited the tower, Tower 2 collapsed, sending debris flying. Hingson later said, "While everyone ran in panic, Roselle remained totally focused on her job, while debris fell around us, and even hit us, Roselle stayed calm."

In the heat of all the chaos, Roselle still just wanted to be friendly with the brave firemen.

On August 28, 2026 Northwest Naturals of Portland, Oregon is voluntarily recalling 53 cases (1,272 lbs.) of Northwest Naturals Frozen Chicken Recipe (protein topper for dogs) and 19 cases (684 lbs) of Northwest Naturals Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe (6lb bags) after the lots were identified as potentially contaminated with Salmonella/or Listeria monocytogenes.

The contamination was discovered after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) collected and tested samples of the product.

Brazil also has stronger penalties for cruelty toward dogs and cats under its animal-protection laws.
