PORRAS MOTORSPORT team owner Mike Mitchell has decided to sell the #98 360 sprint car team to Tony Pombo. “The Pombo’s have been like family to me and they are always fun to be around and race with. I have made the hard decision to step away as a race team owner and focus on two new company startups” Mike said. The Pombo crew brings a lot of experience and knowledge to the race team. Mike will continue to support the team in 2023.

TROPHY CUP 2022 WHAT A GREAT TIME! The Porras Motorsport Team raced three nights at the Tulare Thunderbowl and managed to put the car in the transport after every night. There were positives and negatives during the weekend. The positives were Michael Pombo won a C main, family from out of town and friends showed up and added to the fun during and after the races. Sponsor Diezel BBQ supplied more great eats and a big thank you goes to Blake Robertson of BR Motorsports giving Mike Mitchell a tour of his facility. Pretty Impressive. There are no negatives when racing. Crew chief Rob Solomon with the help of Doug Rankin continued to make changes on the CS9 chassis with the Don Ott motor churning out horsepower as usual. Thursday night saw the #98 win the C main bouncing off the walls and shooting up rooster tails of dirt each time he hit the wall transferring into the B main. Michael finished the B main in the 15th position. Friday Night saw Michael drive to a 7th place finish. The Porras #98 finished 5th in the C main missing the B main by one spot. The final night had the #98 finish 3rd in the D Main #3 transferring into the C main. In the C main, Michael Pombo got seat time ending up in the 15th position. As usual it is a good night when you can roll the car into the transport for the last time this season. RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT AT THE DENNIS ROTH CLASSIC. Tulare Thunderbowl maintained its reputation as fast and will bite you when you least expect it. 31 sprint cars showed up for the Kings of Thunder 360-winged sprint car race on Saturday night. Porras Motorsport had a good night researching different chassis set ups from crew chief Rob Solomon. Driver Michael Pombo’s shoulder was as strong as ever finding his way around the track. A SPECIAL THANK YOU GOES TO DIEZEL BBQ WHO SUPPLIED THEIR USUAL AWESOME FOOD for the Porras crew. The always fast Kaleb Montgomery set fast time of 13.982 in the Keller Motorsport 2K. Driver Michael Pombo qualified in the 11th spot with a time of 14.264. Heat race 3 had the Porras 98 starting on the front row. Dominic Scelzi beat Michael to turn one to win the heat race and Michael coming in 2nd. After making changes to the CS9 chassis the #98 started in the 6th row (11th) and crossed the checkered flag 11th. It was amazing how many cars were bouncing off the wall during the races. Feature winner Rico Abreu actually climbed up the turn 4 wall and kept going. Corey Day flipped in turn two while leading the Kings of Thunder 360 Sprint car feature after bouncing off the wall. This Thursday the Porras Motorsport team will return to run the Trophy Cup which is expected to have 100 sprint cars. It is a good night when you can put the sprint car in the transport in one piece.

HOT HANGTOWN ON A SUNDAY NIGHT: Sunday night Nor Cal Posse Shootout again brought hot temperatures and hot racing. The Porras #98 team worked very hard to make the A main tonight in spite of the 86-degree weather at 9pm. Sometimes you just have one of those nights and Sunday night was one of those nights for Easton driver Michael Pombo. Qualifying in the 4th group, Michael was 5th fastest with a time of 11.221 with Tanner Carrick setting fast time at 10.926. In the 4th heat race the #98 car started 5th and did not finish due to a spin out on the last lap. The only thing cool this night was Rob Solomon changing the set up for the B main. This team didn’t panic and after eating pizza was very confident Michael Pombo would get the Porras team in the A main. The 12 lap B main had the #98 starting in the 10th position with the top 4 cars transferring into the A main event. Driver Michael Pombo ate some candy, strapped in and went racing. Michael avoided a car spin out in turn 4 and moved his way forward to finish 3rd and transferring into the A main. Crew chief Rob made some adjustments before the 35 lap A main and it paid off. Michael started in the 23rd spot in the main event and drove a hell of a race to finish in the 13th position. It is a good night when you can roll the tired race car and driver into the transport. Thank you to our sponsors Lemoore Auto Supply (CARQUEST) – Kaeding Performance – CS9 – EMRossi - Mike Mitchell Construction. Coming soon Quick Change Energy Drink.
