Do you love your occupation? The vast majority of people do not love their job. If you are one of those people, what can you do about it?

We spend countless hours at our occupation. Therefore, it is important for us to truly enjoy that time so we can feel fulfilled, engaged, and happy. If you find yourself dreading work each day or wishing you were doing something else while at work, but you are not sure how to change your circumstances, try this . . .

1. Grab a piece of paper and list the top 10 things you value in life. Don’t overthink it, just write down what immediately pops into your mind.

2. Next, pare down your list to your top five (5) values, and then rank them in the order of importance to you.

3. Next, list five (5) occupations that would fulfill at least three (3) of the values most important to you.

4. Next, brainstorm what skills are required for each occupation and write down each skill.

5. Evaluate whether you possess the skills listed in step four (4) for each occupation. If you do not possess a required skill, write down what action step(s) is necessary to acquire that skill.

When we no longer enjoy our occupation, it is often the result of a change in our values. For example, when we first start working, we may place the highest importance on the amount of the paycheck due to outstanding student loan debt, a desire to accumulate savings to buy a house, etc. However, when we accomplish those initial goals, our values may evolve over time into wanting to spend more time with friends and family, working less overtime, etc.

Our change in values over time causes the discontent we are feeling because our occupation is no longer aligned with our current values. Therefore, a change in occupation may be needed to feel aligned again.

If you would like help determining your current values and/or analyzing potential occupations that best suit your desired happiness, then DM me or send me a message via my website to get started.

Are you sleeping well at night, or are you tossing, turning, and trying every trick in the book to turn your mind off? Sleep is incredibly important for our minds, bodies, and souls, so we should not disregard the vital role it plays in our lives.

I used to be that person who would routinely “function” on four-to-five-hours of sleep per night. However, when I turned 35, my body started telling me, via not-so-gentle nudges, that amount of sleep was not enough. It was like a light switch was flipped, and my body said, “Yeah, we are not going to do this anymore. Just try to keep this up. Watch what happens.”

Knowing what I know now about how vital sleep is for recovery, stress reduction, cognitive function, immunity, etc., I wish I had made lifestyle changes sooner. With that said, I’m glad I made the necessary changes when I did.

It can still be a constant battle to sleep throughout the night, as I have a very active mind. One strategy that has helped me is to write down whatever is on my mind when I wake up in the middle of the night, no matter how inconsequential it may seem. The physical act of writing it down allows me to release it. It provides the feeling of granting permission to myself to deal with whatever it is in the morning, AFTER I get the necessary rest.

I’m curious about what others do to combat sleepless nights. Feel free to comment below to share your strategies, as it may help others get some peaceful shut-eye. Sweet dreams everyone.
