REV RIDER STORIES 🖤 | Meet Remy
Q: How old were you when you first started riding, and what got you into horses?
Remy: I was about 5 or 6 when I first got on a horse. After riding for about three years, I took a break to pursue another sport. During COVID, I got back into riding at 11 or 12, and I’ve been riding ever since. My mom used to ride and own horses when she was younger, so she was the one who introduced me to horses.
Q: What have horses taught you?
Remy: I think every horse I’ve ridden has taught me something different. The horses that challenged me the most taught me the importance of patience, communication, and understanding.
Q: How has riding shaped who you are outside of the barn?
Remy: Riding has helped me realize what I want to do with my life. I know I want to work with horses and have a career involving equines.
Q: What does the barn give you that you don’t get anywhere else?
Remy: The barn gives me a feeling that I honestly don’t get anywhere else. It’s a place where I can disconnect from everything and as someone that struggles with anxiety and mental health, the barn melts away all those problems!
Q: What accomplishment with riding or horsemanship makes you the most proud?
Remy: I’m most proud of continuing to ride despite not always having the financial resources to make it easy. Much of my riding journey has been self-funded, so being able to keep working toward my goals and gaining experience along the way means a lot to me.
Q: What’s a riding goal you’re working toward right now?
Remy: Right now, my biggest goal is to continue improving my riding and horsemanship while taking the next step in my equestrian career. I’m transferring to UConn for Equine Science & Management and hope to work in some part of the equine industry. I am so I’m excited to keep growing both as a rider and in my understanding of horses!
