In July 2026, National Park and Recreation Month highlights “The Power Of…” - the power of parks and recreation, play, nature, community, belonging, well-being, and the people who make these experiences possible.
Our local parks and recreation programs reveals the power of what connects us:
o The Power Of Connection: Parks and recreation provides spaces where relationships grow, cultures meet and communities bond.
o The Power Of Play: From playgrounds to programs to youth sports, play fuels creativity, joy and lifelong learning.
o The Power Of Community: Public spaces offer room for everyone to gather, celebrate and heal.
o The Power Of Nature: Access to nature restores, inspires, and improves quality of life.
o The Power Of Belonging: Welcoming parks and programs provide spaces where everyone feels valued.
o The Power Of Well-Being: Parks and recreation advances health,
resilience and shared community benefits.

Hayden Brainard, Girl Scout Troop 16313 for her Gold Award led a community service project on Friday, July 3rd to construct a butterfly garden at the new Gin Branch Trails located in Peachtree City. This is a new public greenspace park that was dedicated on the 2026 National Trails Day in June.
Members of several Scout troops, McIntosh Beta Club, the SouthSide Cycling Club and community volunteers helped clear the garden space, install plants and two trail benches.
The UGA Fayette County Extension office and Fayette County Master Gardeners assisted with the garden design and plants.
Volunteers have now contributed over 500 hours at service days since last June to maintain and improve over a mile of natural surface trails during scheduled trail service days to support sustainable and accessible use by hikers, runners, and mountain bikers. Tasks have include trail maintenance and overgrowth clearing, erosion control, trash pick-up, surface grading, trail benches and trail signs.
If you would like to contribute or assist the Gin Branch Trails community service project, please contact the SouthSide Cycling Club by email at [email protected]
