Thank you for your interests in joining the Shadow Creek Wrestling Club.

I have put together this quick response to answer some frequently asked questions that I receive from parents.

Parent: I want to get my child into wrestling, how does your club work?

Our club accommodates the age range between 8-12 years of age.

Primarily because I operate this out of my garage I don’t have a lot of space for so many kids. Age seven and younger, I find, require more discipline during practice and it often takes away from my ability to instruct the older kids . And for kids older than 12 years of age, they are a little too big to be in the small space with my small and medium sized wrestlers. In addition the high school, Alvin ISD and Pearland ISD neither offers wrestling. And unfortunately teens quickly lose interest if they can’t compete later down the road.

Alternatives

There are a few clubs that are a bit further away than Shadow Creek Ranch (Pearland Area) that are really good and can accommodate both younger and older kids. Notably Vici Wrestling & Combat Sports in League City. Gracie Barra Westchase - Houston - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu & Mixed Martial Arts, and Paradigm Training Center

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great sport for children of all ages. And most programs offer youth classes with incredible instructors. Notably Renzo Gracie Pearland and Shadow BJJ - Shadow Creek Brazilian Jiu Jitsu are two places I highly recommend.

Gymnastics is a great developmental sport to help teach kids how to control their bodies. Which is why many would argue that self body control should be a prerequisite for getting into wrestling as a youth.

Parent: My child is between 8-12 years of age, when can he/she start?

I run three sessions throughout the year. Two sessions are primarily introductory sessions and the other session is a competitive session for kids who are ready to train and compete.

September - October
1 day per week
No competition

16 Week Competition Wrestling
November - February
2 days per week - competition most Saturdays

8 Week Wrestling for Football
March - April
2 days per week - competition most Saturdays

16 Week Off Season May - August

My ultimate goal is to move into a bigger space where I can accommodate more kids who are interested in wrestling , but until that time I have to limit who I can accommodate.

I am looking for training partners for my son Jacob. Jacob weighs roughly 100 lbs. Age 10 in 5th grade, and has intermediate wrestling experience. The bigger kid pictured below.

Looking for kids in 5th or 6th grade, age 10-12 between 90 and 120 lbs that he can practice with.

I want to share that early bird registration for Shadow Vreek Titans Youth Football and Cheer will open up next week. Time to grow the teams and bring back that winning tradition.

Jacob is Coming home with some hardware after four hard fought matches today. Tomorrow will definitely be a tougher day and we will be ready for the challenges to come. Thank you to all of the sharks in the shark tank back home, helping us to get better and stronger. Shadow Creek Wrestling Club

We traveled to Fort Worth and we are coming home with gold. It’s been a turbulent start of the season, but Jacob found his groove today in a division suitable for his skill set. Was so glad to see him turn a corner and show me the side of him I know he is more than capable of. Coach and dad loves you!

Panhandle Nationals the First Ironman Tournament is out the way. So grateful to travel with Jimmy Guzman and honored that Jimmy chose to represent Shadow Creek Wrestling Club. Proud of our performance, but definitely not satisfied. Lots of hard work ahead. I’m looking forward to more trips and tournaments.

So proud of these two little ones right here. Training partners, competitors, friends, and Sharks. I hope they both continue to push each other on, and even off the mat. Can’t wait for their sisters to join them 😉 Alvarado Sisters on deck. 💪🏽
