Master Poblacion taught a fabulous FMA seminar today! He shared his knowledge and expertise for three hours and graciously stayed after and allowed us to record him demonstrating drills with Miss Switzer. Afterward, the group enjoyed dinner together at Kuchie's on the Water.

Discipline is not about doing only the things you enjoy. It is about having the courage to do what is difficult, uncomfortable, and demanding—even when motivation disappears.

For a martial artist, discipline is built through repetition. It is waking up when you would rather stay in bed. It is training when your body feels tired. It is practicing the same technique hundreds of times until movement becomes natural. It is continuing when nobody is watching and there is no applause waiting for you.

A strong karateka understands that physical strength is only one part of the journey. The deeper battle happens inside the mind. Every difficult training session becomes an opportunity to develop patience, resilience, focus, and self-control.

You may hate the struggle today, but the struggle can shape the person you become tomorrow. Every drop of sweat represents a decision to keep moving forward. Every failure can become a lesson. Every painful repetition can build greater confidence.

True discipline means transforming resistance into commitment. You do not need to love every moment of training. You simply need to respect the process enough to keep going.

The goal is not perfection overnight. The goal is progress through consistency. Small efforts repeated every day can eventually create extraordinary results.

For the karateka, discipline is more than a training method—it is a way of life. It teaches you to remain calm under pressure, humble when you succeed, and determined when challenges appear.

Train your body. Sharpen your mind. Strengthen your character. Keep showing up.

Because when motivation fades, discipline keeps you moving.

We had a great black belt class tonight. We started a series on Gichin Funakoshi's twelve throws of karate, relating each to the kata movements. We covered the first three tonight. Next, we worked on throwing a lead hand punch from the low position with knockout power using Peter Consterdine's double hip method. Many boards were broken!

I ran into Sifu Ray Cooper Jr. at the Traditional Warrior tournament last weekend. He is the son of a legend and a terrific martial artist in his own right.
