What does it really cost to get an adaptive athlete on the slopes?
When we see an athlete skiing down the mountain, we see the smiles, the independence, and the freedom. What we don’t always see is the investment it takes to make that moment possible.
Let’s talk numbers.
A brand-new sit ski can cost thousands of dollars. For example, Enabling Technologies lists its Monique Mono Ski at $5,350—and that price does not include the ski and binding. That’s just one piece of the equipment needed to get an athlete on the mountain. While we have skis, many are several years old, it’s time to start replacing and updating our equipment.
Then there’s the rest of the gear. Skis, boots, bindings, helmets, outriggers, and safety equipment all come with costs of their own. Equipment must be maintained, repaired, and eventually replaced.
Storage is another year-round expense. Adaptive equipment doesn’t disappear when winter ends. It needs a place to be stored and cared for until the next season.
Insurance and operating costs matter, too. Keeping a program running safely takes more than equipment and volunteers. There are insurance premiums, maintenance expenses, program costs, and the everyday needs of running an organization.
At 3 Trackers of Ohio, adaptive sports are our passion and our mission. But passion alone can’t pay for equipment, storage, insurance, and the resources needed to keep our programs available.
We have to operate sustainably so we can continue showing up for athletes with physical disabilities, children, and veterans who deserve the opportunity to experience the joy of sports.
This is why fundraising is so important.
Every sponsorship, donation, fundraiser ticket, and shared post helps support the work happening behind the scenes. It helps us care for the equipment we have today and prepare for the athletes who will join us tomorrow.
Our upcoming Designer Purse Raffle on November 7 is about more than winning a beautiful purse. It’s an opportunity to support the mission that keeps adaptive sports moving forward.
Help us keep the freedom, confidence, and joy of adaptive sports within reach.
