Keep in mind that most boat insurers will not write a new policy or renewals if there is a named storm in the gulf.

Interesting shot of boats headed in to Big Lagoon boat ramp in order to beat the storm. I am amazed at how many boaters launch and retrieve with one or NO lines on the boat. We put a line on the bow and aft cleats and tie them together in the middle. Allows one person to control the boat from the dock.

A giant ship's engine broke down and no one could repair it, so they hired a Mechanical Engineer with over 30 years of experience.
He inspected the engine very carefully, from top to bottom. After seeing everything, the engineer unloaded his bag and pulled out a small hammer.
He knocked something gently. Soon, the engine came to life again. The engine has been fixed!
A week later the engineer mentioned to the ship owner that the total cost of repairing the giant ship was $20,000.
"What?!" said the owner.
"You did almost nothing. Give us a detailed bill."
The answer is simple:
Tap with a hammer: $2
Know where to knock and how much to knock: $19,998
The importance of appreciating one's expertise and experience...because those are the results of struggles, experiments and even tears.
If I do a job in 30 minutes it's because I spent 20 years learning how to do that in 30 minutes. You owe me for the years, not the minutes.

Boating season is fast approaching. Brokers are telling me that there is a shortage of good, used boats for sale. If you find one you want to buy, whether you hire me or someone else, make your offer contingent on an acceptable survey and sea trial. You will save yourself money and heartache!

We go to Steinhatchee scalloping every summer for a few weeks. Wonderful town with great folks and lots of fish! There is an article in this newsletter about safety while boating that is excellent.
Safety first! "I was recently stopped by the FWC, or as most of us know them, the Game Warden." “The charm of fishing is that it is the pursuit of what is elusive but attainable, a perpetual series of occasions of

Recently returned from the National Association of Marine Surveyors’ annual meeting in New Orleans. It was held at the Higgins Hotel adjacent to the World War ll museum. Updated my continuing ed to stay up on the latest to better serve boat owners and buyers. Beautiful hotel and great information.
If your boat has been damaged by Hurricane Sally, the first thing you should do is mitigate further damage if you can do so safely. File your claim as early as possible. Your insurance company will send a surveyor (may or may not be me) to assess damage, create an initial estimate and send it to the adjuster. The adjuster will make final judgement according to your policy. The surveyor does not determine final payment. Your insurance company will pay you and you pay your repair contractors. Please be careful out there and good luck. We’ll get through this! (Please forward this message to anyone you know who might need this information.)
Get your boat insured before hurricane season starts.

Recently took the ABYC Certification Course and scored high enough to be ABYC Advisor Certified. All my surveys quote ABYC Standards, something insurance underwriters are looking for in a Condition and Valuation Survey.
