WELL, WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT. THE ATF FINALLY SAID IT OUT LOUD.
As of October 9, 2026, the ATF has officially announced it will no longer enforce NFA approval or registration requirements for suppressors, short-barreled ri**es (SBRs), short-barreled sh****ns (SBSs), and AOWs.
And this time, it’s nationwide!
No more needing GOA membership or qualifying under the original lawsuit. No mandatory Form 1 or Form 4 under the new federal policy. Standard 4473s, background checks, and applicable laws still apply.
BUT WHAT ABOUT FLORIDA?
Florida Statute 790.221 generally prohibits SBRs and SBSs but specifically exempts fi****ms “lawfully owned and possessed under provisions of federal law.”
That interpretation hasn’t been definitively settled, but it’s an important distinction.
The short version: This is a massive step forward for gun owners, and we’re excited to see where it goes.
