The Peoria Rivermen began play as the Peoria Prancers in the IHL during the 1982-83 season, and have been operating continuously ever since. After two years as the Prancers, the team switched names for good to the Rivermen, and went on to win the IHL's Turner Cup in their first season under the new moniker.
