Yesterday was a hot one on the field, 9 guys for 2 games was almost unbearable! Thankfully we were able to relax after the game with some cold beer, wings and pizza at our local sponsor, Perdue's Grill!

It was great to catch up with Tim and his great staff! Tasty food as always, and the coldest AC in town!

We are excited to conclude our unveiling of the Peoria Sunday Morning League All-Quarter Century Teams with the final installment — the Modern Era (2001–2025).

During this period, the league continued to evolve as the overall depth of talent and level of competition reached new heights. Rosters became deeper, and the league became comprised of a strong mix of current collegiate players, former collegiate standouts, and former professional players. The Modern Era was defined by competitive balance, athleticism, and sustained excellence across every aspect of the game.

As we introduce these teams, selections were based on more than reputation or single-season performance. Each player was evaluated using a composite, era-adjusted model built from our historical data.

Hitters were graded using a weighted formula that balances production, consistency, and power:

Score = 0.35·Hits + 0.30·AVG + 0.20·Extra Base Hits + 0.15·ISO

ISO = (2B + 2·3B + 3·HR) / AB

85 hit minimum for Modern Era

All stats were normalized within their era to ensure fair comparisons across different time periods. This rewards players who combined sustained production with efficiency and impact power, rather than those with limited sample sizes.

Pitchers were evaluated based on workload, effectiveness, and dominance:

Score = 0.35·IP + 0.30·ERA (inverted) + 0.20·K/IP + 0.05·Win% + 0.10·BB/IP (inverted)

150 innings pitched minimum for Modern Era

Minimum innings thresholds were adjusted by era, and rate stats were inverted where appropriate so lower values were rewarded. This highlights pitchers who carried innings, prevented runs, missed bats, and limited free passes.

By combining multiple performance indicators and adjusting for era, this process identifies players who didn’t just perform well, but consistently stood out in one of the deepest and most competitive periods in league history.

Salute to the Modern Era of the PSML! 🫡

We are excited to begin unveiling Peoria Sunday Morning League All-Quarter Century Teams, starting with the Pioneer Era (1916–1925).

The Peoria Sunday Morning League was founded in 1916, born from a demand for organized competition that allowed working men to play baseball while balancing family and careers. Company-sponsored teams formed the foundation of the league, beginning a tradition that would endure for over a century. Even in its earliest years, the league established a reputation for competitive pride and longevity that still defines it today.

As we introduce these teams, selections were based on more than reputation or single-season performance. Each player was evaluated using a composite, era-adjusted model built from our historical data.

Hitters were graded using a weighted formula that balances production, consistency, and power:

Score = 0.35·Hits + 0.30·AVG + 0.20·Extra Base Hits + 0.15·ISO

ISO = (2B + 2·3B + 3·HR) / AB

50 hit minimum for Pioneer Era

All stats were normalized within their era to ensure fair comparisons across different time periods. This rewards players who combined sustained production with efficiency and impact power, rather than those with limited sample sizes.

Pitchers were evaluated based on workload, effectiveness, and dominance:

Score = 0.35·IP + 0.30·ERA (inverted) + 0.20·K/IP + 0.05·Win% + 0.10·BB/IP (inverted)

75 Innings pitched minimum for Pioneer Era

Minimum innings thresholds were adjusted by era, and rate stats were inverted where appropriate so lower values were rewarded. This highlights pitchers who carried innings, prevented runs, missed bats, and limited free passes.

By combining multiple performance indicators and adjusting for era, this process identifies players who didn’t just perform well, but consistently stood out within their time.

Salute to the Pioneer Era of the PSML! 🫡
