⚾ Yankees Drop Pair to Cornhuskers in Season Opener ⚾

The North Peoria Yankees opened the 2026 season Sunday with a pair of tough losses to the Fulton County Cornhuskers, falling 12-10 in game one and 6-2 in game two.

Game one turned into an offensive battle, highlighted by a huge day from Bret Williams. Williams went 2-for-2 at the plate with a double and a grand slam, driving in 4 runs and scoring once for the Yankees.

Kristian Swanson also delivered a big swing in the opener, launching a 2-run homer as the Yankees fought back throughout the game.

In game two, the Yankees bats cooled off, but Will Unsimig stayed productive at the plate, collecting 2 hits in 3 at-bats.

Joe Rusch battled on the mound in the second game, throwing 6 innings while allowing 5 runs and striking out 6 in the loss.

The Yankees will look to regroup and bounce back next weekend as the 2026 PML season rolls on.

⚾ Yankees Roll Past Bobcats at Woodruff Park

The North Peoria Yankees put together a dominant performance Sunday at Woodruff Park, defeating the Central Illinois Bobcats 18–3.

The Bobcats’ offense was limited, with Reinaldo Penichet providing the lone spark, going 1-for-2 with 2 RBIs.

The Yankees, however, had contributions up and down the lineup.

Blaise Sparks led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 day at the plate, including a double, 3 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases.

Nate Rusch added to the offensive surge, going 2-for-3 with a double, 2 runs scored, and 2 RBIs.

Kristian Swanson also delivered a strong performance, tallying 2 hits—including a double—and driving in 3 runs.

The Yankees continue to build momentum as the season progresses.

⚾ Yankees Drop Sunday Doubleheader in Chatham

The North Peoria Yankees hit the road Sunday for a non-league matchup with Chatham 18U, but came up short in both games, falling 5–3 in the opener and 13–8 in game two.

Game one saw a strong debut on the mound from Gage Miller, who settled in early and gave the Yankees a chance. The right-hander worked 3 innings, allowing just one earned run while striking out five in an impressive first outing in pinstripes.

In game two, the Yankees battled offensively but couldn’t keep pace. Veteran Josh Barnes was a bright spot out of the bullpen, delivering 4 innings and allowing just one earned run to help stabilize things late.

At the plate, Joe Rusch led the charge with three hits on the day, including a pair of doubles. He scored twice and drove in a run, continuing to set the tone offensively.

Ethan Garske also made his Yankees debut and made an immediate impact, recording his first hit, scoring a run, and drawing two walks.

While the results didn’t go their way, the Yankees showed flashes on both sides and will look to build on those positives as the season approaches—backed all season long by the support of Schooners in Peoria Heights
