Weight loss can be scary. Nobody wants to try and fail. Or worse yet, lose weight, only to gain it back later.

This is something I have always struggled with. Especially with social media.

If you are thinking about starting something in the coming year (fitness, business, etc.) make sure to focus on yourself. Get better everyday. Don’t worry about anyone else but you.

Most people only show their best moments on social media. Edited, filtered and hand picked to make you think they have everything figured out.

That’s not real.

We all struggle.

So don’t compare your lows to others highs.

Oftentimes, I find peoples priorities to be a bit screwed up when starting a fitness program.

It’s easy to overvalue the things that seem “cool” or things that will possibly make things easier. However, those tend to be the least important things when starting out. In fact, some give no value at all. Ever.

Here are three things you don’t need.

Oftentimes I find myself bored with traditional gym workouts.

If that feeling seems familiar to you, I would always recommend taking a look at your training to see if you can make it more enjoyable.

For me, that means going back to a more athletic style of training. Sprints, jumps, etc. These videos were from my workout tonight.

For you, that might be something different. However, I generally find that former athletes (like myself) tend to enjoy going back to their roots.

Just because you are out of your sport doesn’t mean lifting needs to turn into bodybuilding or powerlifting. Running doesn’t have to be solely distance work. Keep it fun, keep it creative and keep the mindset that you are training. Not just working out.
