FYI... New OHSAA UTR Requirement
As we get ready for the 2026-27 school year and tennis seasons, here's an important update from the OHSAA.
Beginning this season, all Ohio high school tennis teams and players are required to have a UTR Sports profile. This is now a statewide requirement.
A few things to know:
• This year, UTR ratings will not officially determine postseason seeding.
• Ratings will be compared with the coaches' voting process as the OHSAA evaluates whether UTR should play a larger role in future seasons.
Although this is new for Ohio, many states have been using UTR for years. It's simply become part of high school tennis.
Some benefits include:
• High school match results contribute to your UTR rating.
• Players can track their progress with an objective rating.
• UTR is the most widely used rating system in college recruiting.
• It opens the door to additional tournaments and competitive opportunities outside the high school season.
• Coaches and players gain another tool for measuring development over time.
Don't be surprised if your coach asks you to claim or create a free UTR profile. That's now part of getting teams set up for the season.

This summer, the Perrysburg Boys Tennis team participated in our first Yellow Jacket Tennis Book Club, reading The Inner Game of Tennis by W. Timothy Gallwey.
While tennis is certainly about developing great strokes and physical skills, it's also about developing confidence, focus, resilience, and the ability to respond to pressure.
This classic book challenges players to think differently about competition by learning to quiet the inner critic, trust their training, and stay present one point at a time.
We're proud of the players who participated and invested in improving the mental side of their game. Player development doesn't just happen on the court, and we're excited to continue finding new ways to help our athletes grow as competitors and as people.
If you're looking for a great tennis book or simply want to improve the mental side of your game, The Inner Game of Tennis is an excellent place to start.
The Yellow Jacket Tennis Book Club gives it a strong recommendation! Go Jackets!

Last Saturday, we hosted the inaugural Yellow Jacket INTENNSE Team Tennis Tournament, and it exceeded every expectation!
A huge thank you to the players, coaches, officials, parents, and spectators who helped make the event such a success. The energy throughout the morning was incredible. Teams competed hard, cheered each other on, embraced a new format, and most importantly, had a lot of fun!!
Special thanks to our INTENNSE officials:
Brian Geffe
Joely Giammarco
Tom Miller
Joe Pesci
The tournament served as a fundraiser for the Perrysburg High School boys' tennis program, but became much more. It was a reminder of how special team tennis can be when players, coaches, and families come together around a shared experience.
One of the best moments came after the final point was played. Instead of heading home, everyone stayed to celebrate, take team photos, enjoy refreshments, and watch the championship team sign the inaugural Yellow Jacket Championship Tennis Ball. That's exactly the kind of tradition we hope to continue for years to come.
Thank you again to everyone who participated in Year One. We learned a lot, made some great memories, and are already looking forward to making Year Two even better!

FYI...
Here is a resource for summer tournaments!
These USTA tournaments are all within 100-mile radius of Perrysburg.
Plenty of local play opportunities. It's also a good idea to try and play a couple tourneys out of the area. You'll play players that you've never played before.
