Congratulations to our June Employee of the Month, Christopher! 🎉

"I am incredibly honored to be selected as Employee of the Month! I have been part of the Active at Petaluma team for the past year and five months, and it has been an amazing experience. What I love most about working here is the energetic environment and the opportunity to connect with so many great people in our community every day.

Born and raised right here in Petaluma, I have a deep appreciation for our town and the beautiful surrounding areas. I am currently a senior in high school and am counting down the days until graduation on June 5th! Looking ahead, my next big step is focusing on my future career goals, as I plan to dive into the real estate industry, get my license, and work toward building a career in property management and investment.

When I’m not at work or finishing up my schoolwork, I try to spend as much time as possible outdoors. I love being out in nature, going on hikes, and taking in the local scenery, my favorite place to be is Dillon beach. On the creative side, I also love to spend my free time drawing all the different sceneries that I see. Working at Active has been a fantastic chapter of my high school years, and I’m excited to keep growing with the team as I transition into my next chapter after graduation!"

In the last week of our ZONE WOW challenge, we will face our Excursion format. This week, we’re spotlighting the Assault Bike + Landmine to provide a great, well-balanced workout.

What is the equipment that we’re using? The Assault Bike is a high-intensity, air-resistance exercise bike. Landmine training utilizes a barbell anchored at one end focusing on core engagement, stability, and rotational strength.

Why this combo works:
🚴 The Bike builds basic cardiovascular capacity quickly
🏋️ Landmine training reinforces strong, safe movement patterns
💥 Together, they challenge both power and control under fatigue

The ZONE is progressive, purposeful training, helping you to build strength and stamina week over week.

Now you tell us: What was your absolute favorite week of the challenge? Drop it in the comments! ⬇️

Join us this Monday for the “Murph” workout, a tribute to Navy Lieutenant Michael Murphy, who lost his life in Afghanistan in 2005. This challenging exercise routine is traditionally completed around Memorial Day as a way to honor those who have served. 🇺🇸

This May, we’re excited to feature not one but two of our amazing members, Rod and Nona!

Nona is a retired competitive bodybuilder, so along with cardio, stretching, and swimming, she especially enjoys weight training at the club. Rod also spends time in the weight room and stretching area, as well as the sauna and steam room.

To stay motivated, both Nona and Rod point to the mental health benefits, increased energy, better sleep, and improved flexibility they gain from exercise as key inspiration to keep moving. “It helps with mental barriers, it helps with that ‘all or nothing’ thinking. Consistency for me is about discipline and keeping my agreements with myself,” Rod explains. For Nona, exercise is a great way to build resilience. “It has helped train my mind to handle discomfort and push through challenges, translating to improve focus and stay calm when calamity arrives in my personal life.”

When it comes to specific exercises, Nona favors compound movements like deadlifts and leg work, along with upper body training for overall strength. “I like anything that challenges me to sweat,” she says. Rod and Nona were endurance cyclists for over 17 years, something Rod still enjoys today.

Outside of the club, Nona is a passionate thriller reader (“My favorite author right now is Freida McFadden”). She also loves to garden, cook, and spend time with friends and family. She serves as a mentor for women struggling with alcohol addiction. Rod describes his best hobby as “being my wife’s arm candy!” He also loves to spend time with his grandkids, family and friends. In his spare time, he reads a lot of spiritual books (“My favorite author is Emmett Fox”), and both Rod and Nona are plant-based vegans who enjoy cooking together. They also incorporate meditation into their routines.

Fun fact: Nona was a disc jockey back in the 70s and 80s in San Francisco who went by the handle, “Naughty Nona.”
