What happens when every child is given the chance to succeed?

Spectrum Sailing is the only national autism sailing program in the United States, providing free sailing experiences to autistic children and their families in communities across the country.

Founded by Scott Herman for his son, Daniel, Spectrum Sailing has grown from a single local program in Charleston into a national organization serving more than 260 autistic sailors in 13 communities. Through a unique three-day curriculum, participants build confidence, learn real sailing skills, and discover what they're capable ofโ€”both on and off the water.

It is rich with stories about people and organizations using sailing as a vehicle to find the confidence, self-reliance, curiosity and empathy buried within. The organizations are as different as can be imagined. They sail different boats in different water. With different objectives. They have two things in common. They sail. And they get results.

This is what happens when a global community decides everyone deserves access to sailing.

Before the starting gun sounded, the Harken Tech Team got to work in Chicago for Chicago Yacht Club Race To Mackinac.

From the Tech Team trailer, the team spent their days helping sailors stay ready for the raceโ€”servicing winches and travelers, troubleshooting furling systems, and answering questions along the way.

We also had the chance to meet new faces, welcome new Blockheads into the community, and wrap up the race by presenting our First Blockhead to the Island Award. Congratulations to Megan, who sailed aboard Dakota, on earning the honor (for the third time!).

The race may be over, but the Harken Tech Team is always here to help. If your winch feels rough, your traveler is harder to adjust, or your furling system isnโ€™t running smoothly, give the team a call.

Congratulations to every crew that made the trip north. Weโ€™ll see you at the next starting line.

Lightweight. Fast-acting. That's the Grip&Go Aluminum Winch Handle.

From its rigid aluminum construction to its one-handed grab bar and automatic locking pins, every detail is designed to make handling easier. The independent swivel between the ball bearing k**b and hand grip allows fast trimming for low loads and powerful two-handed grinding for high loads.

Looking for a Carbo winch handle? There's a Grip&Go for that.
