This amazing nonprofit community festival has brought hundreds of people out to dance in past years, and we’re so pumped for the 17th annual event! After a day filled with free dance workshops, the festival culminates with an evening showcase featuring a fabulously eclectic mix of routines performed by local instructors, semi-professional dancers and student groups.

Philly Dance Fitness is the primary organizer of this volunteer-run event, and it’s always a highlight of the summer. Many of our instructors look forward to putting together routines for the showcase, and this year we have more opportunities to get onstage than ever! Join us for student routines in ballet, belly dance, Bollywood, contemporary, hip-hop, hoop dance, jazz, pointe, pop jazz & tap. Whether you’re a beginner or a longtime dancer, we’ve got a place for you to shine on stage!

Build confidence and stage presence as you create a solo burlesque routine to perform at a student showcase. This five-week series covers the fundamentals of creating a burlesque solo: musicality, narrative arc, choreography, costuming and stage presence.

Along with presentations and demos, you’ll practice foundational burlesque movements and collaborate with the rest of your small group to workshop ideas for your act. By the last session, everyone will present their solo to the group for constructive feedback. Then it's showtime! The finished acts will be presented at an in-studio showcase hosted by instructor and local burlesque icon .evileye

Technique Series
Learn the foundations of this ancient South Indian classical dance form in this new six-week beginner series. Start with basic hand gestures (hasta mudras) and foot movements, then put them together into adavus, repeated practice of foundational technique such as striking steps (Thattadavu) and rhythmic stretches. Time permitting, you may also work on connecting mudras with abhinaya(facial expressions) to create the elegant, expressive storytelling featured in Bharatanatyam.

While learning the building blocks of Bharatanatyam, you’ll also piece together a short combination and have the option to perform it at the showcase on July 25.

Bharatanatyam training often begins at a young age and committed dancers spend years working under experienced gurus. This series is designed to give an introduction to this beautiful art form to those who may not have had the chance to study it as a child, or who come from other cultural backgrounds.

🚨 An important reminder to please sign up in advance when you want to take class.
Some classes fill up quickly and we must enforce capacity limits for the safety and comfort of everyone. Pre-registering online is the only way to guarantee your spot. On the flip side, we have to cancel classes when fewer than three students are signed up.

Please try to register at least a day in advance. You can always “early cancel” in Mindbody up to 4 hours before the start of class (workshops and series require more notice). Thank you for helping us plan!
