Happy 31st birthday 🎂 Top Hat Dance Studio! Top Hat was born on June 5, 1995. The countless number of people who have touched out lives and graced our floor have provided us with memories and stories that touch our hearts deeply. And that is the legacy of Top Hat Dance Studio! The story DOES continue....

Here is to new beginnings! So excited to welcome Daniel McGee, Jameson Kilburn and the entire Top Hat Dance Studio to La Luna. Top Hat is moving to La Luna effective June 15th and will be operating their classes and most of private lessons out of our location.

If you are a student at Top Hat, you will continue to pay directly to Top Hat and use your class cards. If you are interested in joining any La Luna classes, see us at the front desk. Conversely, we encourage La Luna students to check out Top Hat’s Hustle classes on Mondays and to talk to Danny and Jameson directly.

This photo has hung on the wall at Top Hat for as long as I can remember. With the studio closing, it’s coming down but it’ll find a new home. There’s a cool story behind it: Patty was bartending at McCrossens when a coworker needed someone to photograph in costume. She volunteered, and these are the results. Some things change. The good stuff sticks around.

This is a moment I will treasure forever. This picture was taken somewhere around 2000. Friendships like this are priceless. Thank you Patty, for so many years of memories and here is to so many more. Thank you Richard Conti for sharing this!

A NEW CHAPTER FOR TOP HAT

On June 14, Top Hat Dance Studio will close its Bustleton Avenue location, our home for nearly 20 years, and will continue our operations, (classes, private lessons and other programs) at two suburban-based co-dance locations.

This was not a choice of our making, but rather a business necessity.

Over the past 18 months, our shopping center has been inundated with non-shopping center vehicles, and groups of young men who have loitered in the center’s parking lot harassing our students and teachers. These incidents have raised safety and accessibility issues and as a result have caused many long-time students to no longer feel safe at the studio and discontinue their lessons. 

As human beings who have built a caring, supportive and extremely close community with our students, this is deeply upsetting. As business owners it is simply unacceptable.

While we appreciate the efforts of the landlord as well as local police doing what they can to remedy the situation, it remains unchanged. We are unwilling to sacrifice anyone’s safety: our students, our teachers or our own, by turning a blind eye and not acting.

Beginning June 15, Top Hat Dance Studio will operate from two co-dance locations:

La Luna Dance Studio in Bristol, PA and

Universal Dance Center in Collingswood, NJ

Updates to our class schedules and availability for private lessons and other events will be posted here and on our website in the days ahead. Watch this space!

We also want to thank you for your continued loyalty, patronage, friendship and shared joy of dance. It is our hope that all of our students will join us in the next evolution of Top Hat Dance Studio because after 31 years, multiple locations, and countless dances performances, we’ve found one truth: Top Hat has never been about a specific space or address. It is a family. It is a feeling; one of walking into a room where you know you belong. It’s fellowship. It’s a welcoming, non-judgmental space where expression matters more than perfection, and safety is a given.
