🎉 New Herd Member Announcement! 🐴
Please join us in giving a warm Pegasus welcome to the newest member of our herd—Rico! 💙
Rico is a 22-year-old Off-the-Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) who is being generously free leased to Pegasus by Maria Coyle and family. Registered with the Jockey Club as “Hey Mr. Big Stuff,” Rico has jumped into life at Pegasus with all four feet and has loved every minute of it!
From making new friends in the pasture to forming special partnerships with both his saddle and therapy pad participants, Rico has quickly shown that he has found his calling as a therapy horse.
Before joining the Pegasus family, Rico called Bucks County home, where he competed at horse shows with his owner, gave the occasional riding lesson, and helped with the farm’s summer camps. With that background, it’s no surprise that he has transitioned so naturally into his new role, sharing his gentle personality and steady presence with our participants.
Fun Fact: Rico comes from impressive racing bloodlines! His sire (dad), Thunder Gulch, won the Kentucky Derby in 1995. 🏇
We are incredibly grateful to Maria Coyle and family for entrusting Rico to our program. We are so excited to welcome this sweet boy to the Pegasus herd and can’t wait to watch him continue making a difference in the lives of those we serve.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to and the incredible young people we have had the pleasure of working with over the past six months through the Unleashing Opportunities program!
Unleashing Opportunities is a six-month paid internship program designed to help youth build coping skills, interpersonal skills, goal-setting abilities, and financial literacy while exploring careers in the animal care field. Pegasus was honored to partner with Hand 2 Paw to provide hands-on equine learning experiences for these dedicated interns.
Throughout the program, we welcomed eight interns to the barn, where they gained valuable experience in horse care, barn management, and the daily responsibilities of working with horses. We would also like to recognize Amiyah and Shalaya, who completed their externship at Pegasus. On her final day, Shalaya checked an item off her bucket list by riding a horse to experience firsthand all that these incredible animals are capable of—and she absolutely loved it!
Ryan and Aly, who had the privilege of facilitating this partnership, were honored to celebrate the interns’ graduation from the Unleashing Opportunities program last week. We are so proud of everything these young adults have accomplished and can’t wait to see where their journeys take them next.

Last week our minis, along with Kylie & Ryan, had the opportunity to join our wonderful volunteer Jen for a field trip to Port Richmond! Jen is the Satellite Coordinator for Nativity BVM Senior Community Center, and invited Pegasus to visit their members for their “Western Day” activities 🤠🥰🐴!
