Working with Parks and Recreation of Philadelphia and other civic groups we are outreaching and teaching through skateboarding to educate and inspire youth

The Philadelphia Skateboard Academy has been a work in progress and a culmination ideas and of the services we have provided for the last decade. It started as Gear for Groms (After School Program serving elementary / middle school students) and kept developing as we worked with various civic and educational groups such as A.S.A.P, United Communities, Franklins Paine, S.A.N, P.E.C, Philadelphia Pa

rks and Recreation, The Collective Philadelphia, Franklin Institute, Action Science and Bureau of Lectures to name a few as well as the various stunt show companies we have worked for spreading positive messages through this activity. We want to engage youth in learning through doing and skateboarding is a great conduit for this to happen! Not only do we teach basics to training high level performers in their skill we also teach students about the processes that make skateboarding happen! We run building / design workshops (equipment/parks etc.), civic duty (clean ups /painting etc.), the science /mathematics of skateboarding, character development, events, educational after school programming, summer camps and The Philly Cup Series at this time. We know that skateboarders see the world in a different way, so we show them the different ways they can use what they learn in school and on the skateboard and apply it to "the real world" and how they can be successful on and off the board! Since the growing success of these types of programs over the last decade, Parks and Recreation of Philadelphia at this time seasonally hired for the past 2 years, veteran Professional Skateboarder, AJ Kohn to develop educational programming, events / promotions and park maintenance with great success! So much so that this year our group was given a grant to hire /train and mentor 6 youth workers who became our summer camp youth instructors working for the city! In year 1 AJ had 6 summer camp locations and served hundreds of students, in year two with the additional staff and word spreading the guys served over 1,000 students this past summer at 40 scheduled locations with in the city limits (had over 50 rec centers apply for the program). The program is proving so popular we are looking to expand into more summer camps, skills workshops and after school programs as well to offer more job opportunities to our community through skateboarding! Rad World and The Skateboard Academy of Philadelphia.

We are combining forces with Rad World NJ, Parks and Recreation of Philadelphia, The Cadre, ECX, Board and Brew, B Inspired and several other municipalities to bring more programs and opportunities to the area for accessible and specialized skateboarding and action sports development.

Our indoor facility at DStreet Studios is currently closed to lessons due to no air conditioning an issue that is going on 2 months. We are working with the location to find other solutions

In the meantime we are already planning after school programs at Palumbo Recreation as well as on Sundays from October until last week's of April as we will have indoor and outdoor areas!

We are scheduling after school programs with B Inspired as well as Waldorf school. In NJ we are looking to do after school programs and weekend programs at Rad World and participating schools.

The Skateboard Academy of Philadelphia was based off of Gear 4 Groms we started in 2006. It has evolved over the years to facilitate The Skateboard Academy and now Rad World!

Rad World is our community hub where all action sports have a place to live and grow! Business incubator for ECX Scooter Shop, One Skateboard Shop, Ellen's Board and Brew Cafe and The Cadre which working with Mobile Ed Productions is our educational assembly division for schools from Maine to the Carolinas.

Since our inception we been community based, educational focused and driven to promote the stoke! 20 years going strong see what we got rolling today

Hello friends!
Our D Street Studios location will be closed for 4th of July weekend due to A/C failure
Our Rad World location will be open! So come to 450 Broad Street in Beverly NJ this weekend!
We keep Rad World at around 75 degree at all times for your skating, scooting and bmx comfort!
We hope D Street fixes the issue expeditiously so we can reopen the facility

We were blessed with a donation from the Ron Jaworski foundation for some of our inner city programming in Philadelphia and to bless those in the surrounding communities in South NJ / Philadelphia to get kids started skateboarding.
They dropped off 30 completes that have cruiser assemblies, street assemblies and even trick trainer assemblies. We will be utilizing these to see what type of skateboarding the kids will get into and once they get rolling directing them to shops and parks to take it all to the next level and hopefully help produce life long skateboarders!
