Always nice to show a little love to LOVE Park!

Philly’s iconic Love Park which was once a hotbed for the local skateboard culture, is being replicated by using snow at @bear_creek in Macungie, PA , for #jahrailz . The event takes place Saturday March 4th beginning at 12 pm and consist of a day of snowboarding tricks and stunts off snow-built steps, rails and ramps. JahRailZ! is a special a one-day event at Bear Creek focused on the fun and healthy benefits of snowboarding. The event is also an opportunity for the community to bring non-perishable food items that will be donated to @marthaschoicemarketplace immediately following the event. “We are creating an ode to the original Love Park in Philadelphia, a once famous spot for skateboarding,” said Aidan Bulwicz, head builder at Bear Creek and a former skateboarder at Love Park. “Our Love Park will look very similar to the legendary skate park in the 1990s with steps, rails, ramps, and more, but bade of snow. With snowboarding being born out of skateboarding, we hope many boarders join us and show what they can do.” Admission to JAHRAILZ is free with a valid lift ticket or season pass. We all agree that Rizzo has become a great spot and we’re excited that people are really enjoying it. But if you want to keep it there’s a few simple things that we have to do to make sure we can have it for a long time:

1. Only skate during normal hours which are 7AM to 10PM. Do not skate after the lights go out or super early in the morning.

2. Only skate the area where the features are. Do not skate any DIY objects in the basketball court side.

3. Pick up any trash and don’t paint or tag any of the pillars or walls.

This is all we have to do to ensure that Rizzo remains a great spot for years to come. Please spread the word and do your part.

Join us next Thursday, November 18 from 6-8pm, as we paint the ground at Rizzo, in celebration of 2021. Skate Jam to follow on Saturday, November 20 - more info to come!

Earlier in the day, we are partnering with at WhiteHall Skatepark in Northeast Philly, to offer students at Harding Middle School the opportunity and means to learn how to skate!

We are honored to have the support of to help us continue giving back to our community!

The enhancements at Rizzo Rink are now complete and skate-able. In a few weeks we will be hosting a volunteer-based painting session, to enhance the ground surface, followed by an opening skate jam! Stay tuned for information on these activations.

This project was a great example of community coming together to support an idea, and help get granite salvaged from Love Park out of storage and into the scene. We could not have done this without the tremendous effort and work from and other volunteers who spent their own time and money to salvage these materials in the winter of 2016, after the demolition of Love Park.

Projects like this have many levels of advocacy requiring presentation and approval from channels including City Council, neighborhood associations, Recreation Center groups and from the existing communities these spaces are in. It takes a lot of time and effort which we are committed to. Thanks to our relationship with and The Pennsport Civic Association, we were able to get a concept approved, with the support we needed from the community. Once approved, our friends at stepped up to financially support and we aligned with our partners at to execute the work.

SkatePhilly is committed to continuing to advocate for the skate community and to creating new places to skate, with a focus on repurposing the salvaged Love granite. Thank you to everyone who showed up to the Pennsport community meeting at Rizzo Rink last night! There was some great dialogue and we appreciate all of you who voiced your opinions.
