⛵🏆 EIGHT CLASS WINNERS NAMED AT THE 2026 PHILADELPHIA CUP REGATTA!
More than 60 boats raced on the Delaware River off Center City Philadelphia, competing across eight classes. Congratulations to our 2026 class champions!
🏆 PHRF: Skipper Zach York and the J/70 Mini Max team — Matthew York, Merlin Suggs and Skye Miller — captured the regatta’s largest fleet with 17 boats. After hitting something near the Ben Franklin Bridge in the third race and watching seven or eight boats pass them, the team stuck to their strategy, worked the puffs and battled back to third in the race on their way to the class victory.
🏆 Non-Spinnaker: Bryon Odhner aboard the Colgate 26 Colorado took the win after a tiebreak with Don Hoefle aboard Hot Canary. Odhner, an 80-year-old sailing instructor and captain, called the Delaware a challenging place to sail with its strong currents, shifty winds, shoals and traffic. (image not featured)
🏆 Flying Scot: Joseph Pelosi aboard F.S. 5990 won two of three races to capture the Flying Scot class.
🏆 Mariner: Dan Walsh, racing with Riverton Yacht Club Commodore Lynn Mills aboard Mariner, won two of three races. Their strategy: look for wind while staying out of the strongest current.
🏆 J/22: Ryan Lippincott, racing aboard Jawn with Tod Wentz and Billy Martin, won an incredibly tight 11-boat fleet. Only two points separated the top three boats, and Jawn recovered from losing three boats on the final downwind leg to get two of them back in the last quarter-mile.
🏆 Laser: Philadelphia’s Lucas Koenig swept the class with an impressive four straight wins!
🏆 ICSA: At just 16 years old, Brendan Mack took the class by one point after four races. He also experienced a uniquely Philadelphia racing moment when the Battleship New Jersey’s guns fired while he was sailing nearby!
🏆 Corinthian Sloop: Charles McCammon and Delaware won both races, with Katherine Meinhardt as skipper, bringing Philadelphia sailing history onto the river alongside sister sloop Tinicum.
Congratulations to all of our winners and every sailor who competed in the 2026 Philadelphia Cup Regatta! The class champions will have their names engraved on The Philadelphia Cup, the regatta’s perpetual trophy. ⛵🏆
