From an undisclosed reliable source, it's being reported that a section of Phebe Athletic's players - believed to be led by a senior figure within the squad - are deliberately distancing themselves from organized team activities (practices) and threatening to boycott the National 3rd Division Playoffs if certain demands are not met.
According to the reports, the players involved are demanding what they describe as โappreciationsโ or championship bonuses following Phebe's league title triumph in the LFA B**g Sub-Association. The reports also claim that the players are demanding for the club to provide feeding and transportation for every playoff training session before they can show up for training.
The situation has sparked criticism from supporters and observers who believe the demands reflect a worrying sense of entitlement, especially considering the realities surrounding lower-division and amateur football in Liberia.
Athletic, like many third-division clubs, operates under like-minded individuals who intend to support young talents in the central region of Liberia without any financial profits. This indicates that the players' demands appear to be unrealistic.
Besides, sources close to the club suggest that despite winning the league title, Phebe has not yet received any cash prize from officials of the league, making situation even harder for bonuses.
Transportation support was reportedly provided for players on official matchdays throughout the regular season - a commitment that already stretched the clubโs modest resources. However, putting up an expectation of the same level of logistical support for every playoff preparation session has been viewed by many as unrealistic given the clubโs current financial position.
What has disappointed many people around the club is not necessarily the desire for appreciation, which is very necessary after a successful campaign, but the timing and manner in which these demands are being expressed should have been wisely thought.
Threatening to boycott playoffs, arguably the most important stage of the season, risks undermining the hard work, sacrifices, and unity that carried the team to a title-winning campaign in the first place.
The playoffs represent not only an opportunity for promotion but also a chance for the club and players to build reputation and showcase their talents for bigger opportunities in the future. At a moment when unity is needed most, the reported standoff threatens to overshadow these opportunities and what should be a proud moment for the club.
As the situation develops, supporters will be hoping cooler heads prevail and that everyone involved remembers the bigger picture of the championship club.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports is pleased to announce that the following persons listed below have been carefully vetted and shortlisted for interview across the fifteen (15) counties of Liberia.
All shortlisted candidates are hereby requested to immediately report to their respective County Youth Center or the office of the Superintendent for details regarding the interview schedule, venue arrangement, and other relevant information.
Please be informed that the interview is being scheduled from June 2nd to June 5th via Zoom. The Zoom link will be sent to the county representative or designated contact person assigned to each county, who will guide the interview process with supervision from the Human Resource Division of the Ministry.
The Ministry appreciates your interest and cooperation and congratulates all shortlisted candidates.

Phebe AthleticFC' s official stance on their Patrick Janda's rumored move to Bea Mountain Academy: ๐
"Phebe AFC has been made awareโthrough social media reportsโof our player, Patrick Jonda, being selected for a trial opportunity. As a club, we are always proud and excited when our players attract attention for their talent and hard work. Patrick has earned every bit of recognition he receives, and we wish him nothing but success in every legitimate opportunity that comes his way.
However, we want to make it absolutely clear that PAFC was never contacted, informed, or consulted regarding this reported trial. If these reports are accurate, the approach made toward our player was done without the clubโs knowledge or consent, which is a direct violation of proper football procedures and transfer regulations.
PAFC takes this matter seriously. We expect all clubs and organizations to uphold the principles of professionalism, transparency, and respect when dealing with registered players. Any attempt to engage a player without formally notifying their club is unacceptable and undermines the integrity of the game.
We will continue to seek clarification on the situation and take appropriate steps to ensure that our playersโ rightsโand the clubโs rightsโare fully protected."
