The essential step in personal growth is the awareness and conviction that you are valuable. If you don't value yourself without any doubt then you won't find yourself worthy of self-care. Quitting that diet, not exercising, continuing to believe the same harmful messages your parents gave you, not pursuing your desires, are some examples of what we do when we don't recognize our true value. It is only when you value something that you then take good care of it, isn't it? Always start from the core beliefs you hold. If they are not about how magnificent you are, you must look at that. You have a desire to be free of pain, for better health, for a loving relationship, for material items, etc. These are wonderful desires. But they can only be delivered to the person who thinks they are worthy of receiving them. You must SEE your desires (think of them, imagine them, love them), then FEEL as though they have come to pass (what would your body do if they came to pass?), and then everything in your life will align so that you will BECOME that desire (healthier, pain free, more money, etc). SEE, FEEL, BECOME!! Start today to find evidence of your own magnificence. Even a small kind gesture. Know that you are not what they did to you, not your mistakes, not your conditioning, not your beliefs, not your flaws. You are light, awareness, life itself.
