The Mk13 was the official designation for a series of rifles that date back to 1990.
In the wake of the M24 program, the US Navy identified that it needed a precision rifle of it's own. This led to Reddick Arms being commissioned to build 2 prototype weapons, being the M91A1 and M91A2, with the A1 being chambered in 308 and the A2 being chambered in 300WM.
After successful trials, the weapon was purchased and put in the hands of the US Navy Seals. This rifle, in this form, would be known only as the 700/300 rifle.
All of these rifles were essentially M24s with a different stock, that being the first of McMillan Stocks tactical stocks that offered the vertical pistol grip, the A2.
The stocks changed colour from trial to GWOT as well. M91 stocks were painted black, as were early 700/300. Late 700/300 guns wore a solid moulded in Medium Grey, and there's a mix of Grey and Tan for the early Mk13 Mod0s. This is as a result of guns with Grey Stocks already in circulation and the middle east kicking off, resulting in moulded in Medium tan stocks being on the new guns to fit the desert environment.
The amount of adjustability changed from trial to adoption as well. Non-adjustable stocks being on the trial guns before adjustable cheek pieces and LOP were added to the later 700/300 guns and then the Mk13s.
We can't really find the dates but in the late 90s or early 2000s, the rifle was officially given the designation of Mk13, dropping the 700/300 title.
The rifle generated very little attention until the movie "American Sniper" was released and the rifle was put front and centre as Chris Kyle's personal Sniper Rifle during his first tour.
The Mk13 would go through 7 modifications over it's life until being replaced by the Mk22 Mod0.
