This attack happened in a crosswalk right across the street from a major police department here in Arizona during morning rush-hour around 9 AM. โTJโ felt something was off this morning when noticing a nearby man, but didnโt really believe that the guy coming towards her would attack her.
No one stopped to help her. Not one- people just continued driving passed while he inflicted several punches & kicks. We are completely appalled at humanity.
This is a prime example of how attacks can happen at any time, at any location, for no reason.
The suspect that attacked her was ultimately apprehended and has been charged. Surveillance video revealed that he had already attacked two other people up the street 10 minutes prior to this incident.
We are urging you- for your safety & those around you- to protect yourselves.

โโToday, I was scared for my children.
The kids and I had to go to the Edmond/OKC area to run a few last-minute errands. We made our first stop, then went to BJโs on Memorial to grab an early lunch. I drove by the door to see if they were open yet, and they were not. So, we went across the street to Von Maur at Quail Springs mall to run in to the restroom. I felt a sense of urgency getting my kids back in the car, and when we went back to BJโs, everything was fine for awhile. Towards the end of our meal, two men walked in and sat behind us. The younger man had his back directly to mine. I just had to wait for our to-go box and pay, so we got out of there quickly. I still felt leery in the parking lot, but we had to run to Samโs Club, where we just got what we needed and left. In the parking lot, I still had that gut feeling that we needed to hurry and leave. Samโs was out of one thing we needed, so we then went to Target to grab that last baby care item.
When we got to Target, I parked on the Chick-Fil-A side because I knew that on the other side, a woman and her two girls almost got abducted in the Platoโs closet parking lot. Wellโฆ I went in to Target with my kids, we went to Starbucks, and then to the baby aisle. While I was in this baby aisle, the (olive skin tone, black glossy hair, tall, skinny, and put-together) younger man from ALMOST TWO HOURS BEFORE was walking around aimlessly and stalled at my aisle and spun around as if he couldnโt find something he needed. Well, I immediately was alarmed. I spoke with my husband and my dad on the phone, and both told me to have someone walk me out. After speaking with them, he walked back the way he had come (past my aisle) one more time.
I went to the check-out, and my cashier was an elderly woman. So, after buying what we needed, I walked around the front to try and find a male employee who looked like he could beat somebody up. ๐
As I was searching, I saw the other man, who was a burly, white male around 60 years old. He was in the self-checkout and made eye-contact with me. I KNEW we were in danger. I prayed for God to send someone who could walk me out, because security was a small woman who was about eight months pregnant. I told her I wasnโt taking a chance on her walking out there with us, but then two other men walked in and I immediately knew I could ask them for help. They walked me to my car and kept an eye out as I put both babies in their car seats. Then, they put my cart away for me.
We went to the Edmond Police Department to have them check for any kinds of trackers on my vehicle. They were so helpful and I felt reassured after they checked, but Iโm still freaked out.
Donโt take your babies in that area if you are alone.
Train, train, train for self-defense and scenarios like this.
Edited to add: I made this post for my friends and family. Anyone who is going to be rude can just kindly scroll on past.
Iโve been asked how I had time to snap these two pictures and not pictures of the two men.
1.) I thought we were safe when I snapped this photo of my children. I had just gotten to Target and ordered my coffee, and sent this picture to my husband to tell him we had just stopped at Target.
2.) I was with police officers in the second photo, and I felt safe with them and was able to snap yet another photo to send to my husband.
Moral of the story: stay vigilant!

Situational awareness is vital.
Always be aware of your surroundings โ stay off your phone in public, walk with your shoulders up & right look people in the eye, especially if theyโre making you nervous or uncomfortable. Always listen to your instincts/intuition.

Rene is the founder, owner and the lead firearm instructor for SAFE- safety, aim, fire, education, which is a firearm education company that focuses on empowering women and ALL individuals by education and hands on techniques. Rene is a retired police detective with 30 years of experience and service to the residents of Arizona and still holds her police certification. She has been an Arizona POST Fi****ms Instructor for over 25 years and is certified by the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) as a pistol and rifle instructor.
In addition, Rene is certified in Special Weapons and Tactics Operations as well as recognized by the National Rifle Association of America (NRA) as a Police Marksmanship โSharpshooterโ. Rene has trained thousands of police officers and civilians in fi****ms safety and the mechanics necessary for proficient fi****ms operation.
This knowledge and expertise has contributed greatly to the โWeapons for Womenโ program, which is a full continuum of training that provides women with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively protect themselves.
During Reneโs law enforcement career, she has obtained extensive knowledge and experience in the use of personal defense products to include impact weapons, TASER, pepper spray and hands on defensive tactics. She is certified by the Sacramento Public Safety Center in the Protection of Public Officials and has extensive experience in personal security protection. Rene has assisted the Secret Service providing direct protection for the President and Vice President of the United States of America and has served on the Protection Detail for two Arizona Governors. Rene is also a Terrorist Liaison Officer.
