My visit today, well yesterday now, was challenging. I felt I wasn’t as strong as I wanted or needed to be or was it I wasn’t as confident in my strength...I’m struggling with trusting my own body...

I came across this statement and thought of Ethan and the way he teaches, encourages and nurtures the confidence of those who he services. He can see in me what I have yet to allow myself to see...he is allowing me to become aware as I continue my journey of self-discovery.

‘Coaches should not push or force their own idea of ‘progress’ on to clients – They must allow for clients to “become aware” of it in their own time and at their own pace. Otherwise the Coach can risk placing “a burden of expectation” on both himself and the client – producing a sense of pressure and anxiety within the Coaching relationship itself. [11/28/20]   Throwback! I was just browsing through my videos of my clients and stumbled across this one. She is prepping for her first ever bodybuilding competition. I learned so much dieting her down.

I learned how unique each individual is when it comes to how their body responds to dieting. The more food I gave her, the leaner she became. I remember bringing up her calories to 2,600 to 2,700 🤯. Her carb intake was high as hell. This allowed her to perform better in the gym and gain more muscle mass.

Her metabolism was very shifty. This became a little problematic as she dieted down. Too much info to explain on here what I mean but maybe some other time.

Squeeze It! 🍋

When doing back extensions, it’s important to not only use your back but to use your butt 🍑 in conjunction to it. Using one without the other can lead to faulty movement patterns that cause injury 😢.

Your hamstrings also work in conjunction with your lower back and butt to pull your torso up.

Adding weight to the back extension is a great way to overload your butt with more resistance 💪🏾. It also promotes a stronger 💪🏾 and more toned mid and upper back. Remember... the more resistance (mechanical stress) you place on the butt, the more it develops 😉

Doing Split Squats helps get rid of cellulite and give the but “The Cuff”

When doing split squats push your knee out to the side. This activates your glutes more during the exercise. Another good pointer is press through the outer side of your foot. By pressing through the outside of your foot, you target more hamstrings in the movement.

F**K YOUR ARMS!!💪🏾

If you ever worked with me, you already know the reasoning for why I tell my clients “F**K YOUR AMS!! 😯 All the time ⏰.
.

One of the biggest misconception in doing rows is that you use your arms to pull the bar to you. You DO NOT use your arms, you use your back. The more you squeeze your back, the more the comes to you.
.

Chances are if you ever used to row machine at your gym, you primarily used your arms to row it to you. Here are some helpful tips to engage more of your back and use far less arms.
.

1.) When you grip ✊🏽the bar, barely hold on to it with your finger tips 🤌🏾. Place your thumb around the bar as well. This limits how much you can use your arms, and causes your back to work harder during the exercise 😅
.

2.) Lean back in the row boat. This allows you to squeeze your back more
.

3.) Raise your chest up. This allows you to squeeze your back more.
.

4.) Drop your shoulders and elbows down, so you can raise your chest up higher and to lock in your back.
.

5.) Try to connect your mind 🧠 to your back while you are squeezing it. This last tip is the most important and maybe the most difficult. Self awareness is important in development of the body and if you are mindlessly working out, the outcome will be minimal.
.

It takes time to learn the process, to work the process, and then use the process to get the prize. You think just because you throw money at something you can get the prize 😂. How’s that working for you? 😢 You’ve thrown money away on clothes, trips, partying 💃, alcohol 🥃, and unhealthy food 🍫 to feel happy, but yet none of those things gave you what you wanted 🥺. You still feel emptiness inside because you sought external things to satisfy what is going on within.

Time is the most valuable commodity on earth 🌍 because you can’t get it back 🙅🏾‍♂️. That is why investing time into yourself, is one of the highest forms of self love and expression ❤️. It’s an indicator that you feel worthy enough to spend time (the highest currency on earth) on yourself to grow.

Many people despise the process and you can tell by how they express self love in what they spend their time on.

Small kinks in the chain can throw off the entire mechanism.

Here I have Lauren deadlifting. I want to preface this post with the fact that she executes the deadlift well (I’m just super meticulous when it comes to form 😅😂)

I break down how a small kink at the beginning of the lift causes her body to get out of alignment in the deadlift.

What’s the solution?
.

Use more quads to break the weight off the floor. If your quads are weak, then perform lifts like front squads, leg press, high bar squats, split squats, and other exercises that emphasize quad development.

Banana 🍌 -Coconut 🥥 Sea moss smoothie = Getting a premium oil for your oil change allows for a better performance and makes sure vital substances (nutrients) are running smooth 😎 through the engine. Sea moss is the cream of the crop oil.

Fruit 🍎 🍐 - Is the premium gas ⛽️ in the tank that allows you to go

Tall glass of Water 💦- Makes sure the car is lubricated 💧 and making a smooth transition from one working part to another.

Can you intake different stuff in your car 🤔? Sure you can, but... is what you’re putting in it going to allow your car to perform optimally? 🤔 You may get from point A to point B, but how safe do you feel in it 😰?

It’s better to cruise in a vehicle with a peace of mine to enjoy the ride 😎 🚗💨

What I’m most proud of isn’t the fact that he deadlifted 90 pounds, but the fact that he tried and failed at this weight 6 other times today before succeeding.

He even asked me to lift it after he had several failed attempts, so he can model the lift after me. He had to figure out how to lift it before he did. That takes grit. I know this is lifting; however, this mentality can be carried over to every aspect of life. Getting stronger is more than lifting weights; it’s the courage to persevere and stand up when the weight of the world is bearing you down.

What if we all had the determination of a child before they’ve been broken down by society. We still have it in us to listen to our inner child.

New Clients: My back is weak
.

Me: I got you, follow these techniques and it will be the strongest it’s ever been in your life.
.

Many people avoid deadlifting because they have a bad back; when in fact, people should be running towards it in droves. Deadlifts will help so many people if they did it right. There is a reason why people who deadlift have big strong backs (it’s not a coincidence). Deadlifts isn’t the cure for all back problems but I believe it is the remedy for a lot of people who have weak backs. These are cues to strengthen your back; however, you should seek a chiropractor for consultation if in pain.
.

I have a client that has 3 cervical disc protrusions. She was weary of deadlifting, but once she learned techniques to strengthen her back during deadlifts, her back is now the strongest it’s ever been. Once again, I’m not saying that deadlifting is the cure for all back problems, but I do believe that one should seek a holistic approach for Wellness such as chiropractic adjustments, exercise, nutrition, and if necessary orthopedic surgery for well rounded health.
.

Deadlift develop the muscles surrounding the spine to keep the spine in place. The problem is, most people don’t have much muscle surrounding their spine, so it’s a lot easier to slip a disc out of place. Part of having a strong core is strengthening it (this doesn’t just mean your abs, it includes back too).
.

Getting more out of your back (Dumbbell Rows)
.

This video shows a subtle change in movement that can make a big difference to your back when doing Dumbbell Rows.
.

When you squeeze your back to row, your shoulder should be drawn back and your chest should be poking out to the side. This will allow you to work your entire back more, instead of just the upper part.
.

Many people are off just slightly. The devil is in the details of how we move and which muscles get activated during the lift. The goal is to optimize muscle growth by activating it through proper technique, movement, and contractions.
.

You can try this exercise with dumbbells or simply grab a plastic grocery bag and put a gallon jug with water in it inside the bag. Grab the grocery bag by the handles and perform the row. This might seem ghetto but it is very effective (I did it and got a great workout in).

What a transformation!! 😳

Monica has been thriving with my gym’s new training program 📈. I remember when she first started and I was teaching her how to sit down 🪑. Now she is squatting 185 pounds for reps 🏋🏾‍♀️.

As a result of her getting stronger 💪🏾, she forced her body to change and develop.
