WE DID IT!!. Today we celebrate 10 years of being a leading dance studio in Arizona.

Through the ups and downs, Staff, Students, Drama, moving from the studio on 7th st to the new one on 16th st, tons of fun and life changing moments, we make it!
Big shout out to all the staff, students, support and love that makes Dance Starz AZ what it is today.
We had planned on having a huge celebration however with covid and the move, we will put it on hold until things calm down.
They say the 5 year, 7 year are the hardest. They are not kidding as those are the years with much change and challenges.
The hardest has been last year with the covid challenge. Moving and re-inventing yourself is not a easy task. you have to deal with your own ego and self worth. I am proud to say we are on the other side of that and know who were and who we are now.
Looking at all our awards (Top Studio, Top teachers ect..) they mean much however not as much as the peoples' lives we touched and changed.
God it great and love wins in the end- Now time to celebrate!!!

Finally Group Classes Starting up again in July! Begining to Advanced- Country Western, Salsa, Ballroom, Become a certified instrutor, Dance Starz Ladies team and much more.

So proud of this lady. Her first competition. Placed in all dances 3 1sts, 2 2nds and 4 3rds in her Rhythm Dances. Smooth is today!

Dance World Mourns Passing of Ron Montez

The dance world is in mourning today following the death of US Icon, Ron Montez. We all got the news late Sunday Jan. 24th. Ron had been in hospital for many days following his diagnosis with Covid 19. Despite reports that his condition was improving, there a was a sudden relapse yesterday from which he did not recover.

Few dancers from the USA achieved the fame and respect awarded to Ron Montez. With Liz Curtis, he was 7 times US Professional Latin Champion 1979-85 and also a finalist in all major events around the world including the World Championships and Open British Championships.

Ron and Liz were icons of the US Dance World and even while still competing themselves, were responsible for training so many of the USA’s younger professional and amateur partnerships, many who themselves went on to become national champions. This of course, only increased once they personally retired from the competitive field.

Ron personally achieved national fame beyond our immediate dance circle as the long-time co-host of PBS Championship Ballroom Dancing, working most notably with Juliet Prowse. He and Liz were also early grand finalists of the talent show “Star Search” one of the most popular shows of the time.

Ron & Liz’s duel shows with World Champions, Donnie Burns MBE & Gaynor Fairweather MBE were legendary and seen all around the world. Ron was also an original member of “Mambo Mania” with Bob Medeiros, Sam Sodano and Terry Leone.

So many people have personal stories about Ron, myself included, but I would like to just mention one and it is my very first memory of him. I was still living in the UK, the year would have been somewhere in the mid to late 1970’s. I had just arrived at the Grafton Ballroom in South London for one of their world famous practice sessions. The floor was empty except for one couple practicing Latin. I did not know who they were, but was mesmerized by their slick, yet authentic dancing. That couple was Ron & Carol Montez. Even after all the wonderful dancers I have seen in my 50+ years in the dance world, that impression is still fresh in my mind, a testament to the talent of the irreplaceable – Mr. Ron Montez.

Excited to announce that we will be open in our new location 4515 16th st #113 on June 22nd. Same teachers, same vibe.
16th st and Campbell in the Biltmore area. Right around the corner from our previous location.

Ok now I can officially post what I started to this morning.

This is a bitter/ sweet day for me. Through this covid period my studio was forced to close, my landlord raised the rent and would not work with me on the rent

I applied for all the covid loans and received a total of $1000. Lol. I should add that I was not kicked out. This is my choice and will have 7th st till the end of June

So vs playing a victim I went full force to find a new location for Dance Starz.

I am proud to announce our new home at 16th@campbell. The studio will be ready in 3 weeks. I will miss my location on 7th st, however change is good.

Join me in September for our grand opening celebrating 9 years locally owned Dance Starz AZ.
