Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur addressed how the coaching staff plans to use wide receiver Michael Wilson during his latest press availability (via Cardinals media).

LaFleur noted that Wilson is actively studying past receivers in this system, coming in with the mindset: “I play Z in this offense, who's a Z that has played well in this offense?... let me study some of that stuff.” 🎬

But while Wilson is taking notes on those who came before him, LaFleur made it clear the young receiver isn't trying to copy anyone else.

“I'm not him either. You know, I'm Michael Wilson. This is my game,” LaFleur explained, describing Wilson's perspective. “And it's my job and Hackett's job and our job to put him in positions to be successful.” 🎯

That means pulling concepts from players who excelled in similar roles while building around Wilson's specific skill set.

“Some of it is like some of those old guys, the Pukas, the Roberts, and stuff like that,” LaFleur said. “But some of it is he can do some pretty special things.” ⚡

After putting together the best season of his career in 2025, the Cardinals are rewarding their wide receiver with a three-year, $75 million extension, including $47 million guaranteed.

Wilson broke the 1,000-yard mark for the first time last season, finishing with 1,006 receiving yards despite having just 52 through the first five games. His breakout turned him into an important piece of Arizona's offense and put him in position for a major payday.

The road to a deal wasn't immediate. Negotiations had slowed after multiple offers earlier in the offseason, but the two sides returned to the table this week and got it done. Wilson, who still had one year remaining on his rookie contract, is now under contract through 2029.

From a third-round pick in 2023 to a 1,000-yard receiver with a new long-term deal. Now it's about building on that breakout season.

The Arizona Cardinals enter 2026 with plenty of changes after a difficult 3-14 season, including Mike LaFleur taking over as the team's new head coach.

The defense will be one of the units undergoing significant turnover, with several of Arizona's most productive tacklers from last season no longer on the roster.

Here were the Cardinals' total tackles leaders during the 2025 season:

Baker once again led the way with 120 total tackles, narrowly finishing ahead of Davis-Gaither. Thompson actually recorded the most solo tackles on the team with 58 despite ranking third overall.

But this group will look considerably different in 2026. Davis-Gaither was released, Thompson and Campbell departed in free agency, while Wilson remains a free agent.

That leaves Baker as the veteran leader of a defense that will need returning players like Simon, Taylor-Demerson, Burke and Williams to take on bigger roles as Arizona begins a new chapter under LaFleur.
