This advice didn’t work 50 years ago and it doesn’t work now. You never want to reinforce a tantrum by giving in to its objective (like more TV in the case of my original video) or giving it a ton of attention, whether that attention is positive or negative, but you always want to do these 4 things… 1. Remain calm & neutral 2. Name your child’s emotions, help them verbalize, and validate them (I understand you want more TV) 3. Offer coping strategies (like stomping) that you do with them to externalize their behavior in a more positive way to help co-regulate them 4.
