P1Kids engages interest in elementary and middle school students to take responsibility for one’s physical and mental health through increased physical activity and health education. It's ! With Thanksgiving being only 3 days away, let's challenge ourselves to prep healthy homemade meals until the holiday comes. Try creating meals that our lighter and refreshing since you know you'll be eating lots of heavy foods this Thursday. Some ideas for lighter meals are:
- Tuna or chicken salad in a spinach wrap
- Oven baked tilapia with veggies
- Kale salad with chicken and lemon
- Vegetable or black bean soup
- Turkey taco lettuce wraps
- Pan-seared shrimp with quinoa
Again, these are just some ideas to get you to think about what kind of foods are considered "light." Good luck!

We have been focusing a lot on the importance of eating well and nourishing our bodies to focus on , so for we decided to mix it up. Let's talk about the importance of and how it is as EASY as 1-2-3!

1) Make a list of what activity you ENJOY the most!
2) Find out how you can MAKE IT HAPPEN by asking friends or family to join you.
3) Write down on your calendar or in your phone WHEN you are going to do this!

Now that you have your game plan, just have fun! Regular exercise is as important as eating well and nourishing our bodies, so during this busy time of the year make sure to find balance for living YOUR healthy life.

Happy Meal Prep Monday! If you are a fan of ground turkey, try this Chipotle style bowl that not only tastes good, but it is also good for you! Inside the bowl is a layer of brown rice, ground turkey mixed with black beans, diced tomato, corn, and low-sodium taco seasoning. Add some cooked slices of bell peppers (any color) to the bowl. Top it off with chopped cilantro, low-fat shredded cheese, fresh salsa, and lime. Trust us.... you'll really like it!

"How much physical activity do children need?"

The CDC recommends 60 minutes of physical activity every day (for both children and adolescents). The link below discusses the three types of exercises, which are: aerobic, muscle strength, and bone strengthening.

1. Aerobic exercise (e..g., brisk walking or running) should be done at least 3 days per week, (60 or more minutes).

2. Muscle Strengthening (e.g., gymnastics or push-ups) should be done at least 3 days/week as part of your child's 60 or more minutes.

3. Bone Strengthening (e.g., jumping rope or running) should be done at least 3 days/week as part of your child's 60 or more minutes.
