Finish this sentence: Going to New York and not riding in a taxi is like going to Arizona and not…

Shout out to the women from Portland OR who asked if we’ll see bioluminescent stuff on the full moon hike they reserved.
Their curiosity led to my curiosity. Now, it’s one of the most popular hiking experiences in Phoenix. 🦂 🔦

Desert Botanical Gardens in Phoenix really knows how to adapt it’s installations to align with the seasons.
The current night-friendly exhibit is a great way for people to avoid the hottest part of the day.

The Jumping Cholla. Everyone learns about this legendary plant on my hikes. Unfortunately, some learn the hard way. .

Hosted a real Texan - from Texas - and his lovely wife for sunrise hike. Did was throwing off some serious Billy Bob Thornton vibes. Ever seen Landman? I’m pretty sure I hiked with Landman today.

The desert has a way of rewarding the ones who show up early.
This morning, two adventure seekers from Boston stepped outside their comfort zone and met me in the predawn chill.

We hiked in silence at first, twilight in the wings, breath hanging in the air, the world still half‑asleep. Then the magic started.

On the western horizon, a full moon was sinking — huge, glowing, almost unreal.
On the eastern horizon, the first hints of sunrise were gathering — soft gold brushing the edges of the sky.

For a few perfect minutes, we stood between them…
Moonset behind us.
Sunrise ahead of us.
Wrapped in the coolness of the Sonoran Desert and the thrill of being awake for a moment most people never see.

They came to Arizona for an adventure.
They left with a story the desert wrote just for them.

You are about to see something very rare. I captured the sunrise coming up directly in the middle of the four peaks mountain range of Arizona.
What makes this so spectacular, is the fact that the sun rises in a different spot every day. In the middle of the summer, it’s way off to the left. In the middle of the winter, it’s way off to the right.
This morning, I was able to enjoy this beautiful sunrise on a solo hike.

OK, time for a Instagram reels rant: if you’re hearing voice dubbing over separate tracks, that’s because reels now forces content creators to use an app called edits. It’s a giant step backwards. Sorry Instagram.
