Our 4th ever tournament came 4 months after our 1st, March 2019. This time we took a trip to one of my favorite cities, Houston, TX for the Lone Star Classic Softball Tournament (Houston) hosted by the Montrose Softball League Association.
We had quite a few new players for the Houston squad that we met in Tampa or through a Baller. El from Philly pitched for us, Ryan joined us from Kentucky, Gabe from DC, and then two more that end up being regulars on the travel team, Big Red aka Mike from DC and Pickles aka Josh from Tampa. The rest of the cast was a combo of FTL, Orlando, and Tampa Ballers.
Most of the team stayed together in a very nice house, we all injured our livers, and we still had a pretty good showing at the fields. We didnโt place, but we finished in top 10, I want to say it was 8th, either way, a good time was had drinking p**s out of jugs at the fields and hanging with the peeps!
Whatโs next?

Our next tournament, which would be our third, saw us returning to Florida yet again as we get back down to the sunshine state after only one month from being in Orlando. February 2019, the Suncoast Softball League had us returning for the Gasparilla Softball Classic in beautiful Tampa.
We had a few guys returning from our first tourney team in Lauderdale with Joe, Mike, Chris, Paul, Doug and myself. Plus a couple returning from the Orlando team, Nate and Rob. As usual, we had some new additions in Angelito and Jeff from Philly, Marshall from Indianapolis, Chad from DC, Bobby from Columbus, and Kyle from wherever he was living then, lol and Chris from VA/NC.
Letโs just say I donโt remember a whole lot from this weekend except the shenanigans that took place at the Flamingo motel. That place no longer exists, glad I got to experience it in its full glory though. 3 highlights: Marshall being spun around in his bed in the middle of the night, we literally spun the bed around in circles. Chad getting hit on and twerked on in one of the hotel bars while he was literally dozing off. And of course Paul telling a glorious story while I sneakily was behind him tickling his fancy, he would swat but never turn around. ๐๐ had to be there!
Oh yeah, we did play softball there that weekend, just not a lot of it, we may have one won game, I also had to play a lot and we all know how much I love that. ๐๐
Great memories! Miss you guys!

Our 2nd tournament as a team was back down in Florida, this time Orlando for the Orlando Meltdown Charity Softball Tournament held by the Central Florida Softball League. January 2019, we got our first taste of finishing in a top 3 place. We finished 2nd ๐ฅ, losing the championship game to the Boston Postmasters, and boy it was windy and cold out there!
We had a few returning players from the Lauderdale team, but we also added some new guys from DC, Rhode Island, Kentucky, and Columbus, plus some we met down in Ft. Lauderdale like Jherin, Brian, and Ian. This was the start of that tournament addiction. We had a blast, we all stayed together in a beautiful Airbnb, miss you guys!

Our first appearance was in Fort Lauderdale, FL for the Hurricane Showdown Softball Tournament held by the SFAAA Softball League. The year was 2018. Our only intentions were to have fun, play hard, and have a good time.
From that we got lasting memories, friends, and a dedicated sponsor that has been supportive of our every move! We all may not have played together as a group again, but they all played with Boy Butter again at a later tournament.
This tournament also introduced us to some other folks that started the growth of the travel team. Iโm not sure if we won a single game that first tournament, but we still had an amazing time!

Talk about growth! Very well done! ๐
Now that the dust has settled from our Fall 2023 registration period, we are truly in awe that our community of LGBT+ and allied players has shown up and shown out โ we have grown from our initial 6 teams in Fall 2021 to an INCREDIBLE 22 teams this season! We're grateful for every single one of these players and teams that are part of our league โ thank you! We celebrate good sportspersonship (it's at the heart of our organization and we take this seriously), camaraderie that develops from getting to know new faces and seeing old friends return, and the joy of participating in team sports in a supportive environment. Another component of our league is participation (if able) in our charitable projects that benefit our community in Raleigh and Wake County; we strive to make these affordable and easy to pitch in. A huge thank you to Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department for the use of your beautiful parks, and to Chief Patterson and the Raleigh Police Department for your support and partnership. We are very much looking forward to seing our returning players, teams, and staff, and we're also excited about welcoming our new friends to the fields!
