Training Myth - warm-ups are not important. WRONG!
Warming up before training is the best way to prevent injury. Warming up only takes 10 minutes. 10 minutes of warming up sounds better than being injured and having to take weeks or even months off to recover.
It’s a choice: Get results or make excuses. Results come after the hard work!

Drew has been a Strength & Conditioning Coach for 15 years now. He earned his Degree in Exercise Science and is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist.
Meet Michael. He has trained at Speed & Strength University for almost 4 years. He is very involved in sports, so his training focuses on injury prevention, speed, and agility. It has been great to coach Michael these last several years and see him continue to stay active in three different sports at 64. 💪

Goals are important. Starting with no idea where you are headed is like getting in a car without a destination. 🚗 If you play sports, chances are you have goals in mind for what you want to accomplish. However, reaching those goals can sometimes be more complex and sometimes very complicated.
In this mental skills session, we are going to talk about goal-setting and how to create a road map to reaching your goal. It’s great to have a goal, but without a plan to achieve it, then it is just an idea. 💡 So let’s work on learning how to create a plan, and get you there!

Another great Mental Performance Skills Workshop. Jenna walked through the steps of how to master self-talk: REFLECT, RECOGNIZE, REPHRASE, REPEAT.
You must first recognize what you are telling yourself, then omit performance degrading/negative thoughts and switch to positive/performance improvement thoughts.
Just like you train your physical body, you have to train your mind. It takes practice!

Meet Zack Espinosa, our newest coach! 👋 He is currently a student in ASU working towards his Masters in strength and conditioning. Originally from Illinois, Zack moved to Phoenix five years ago.
Zack grew up playing multiple sports and has a passion for helping athletes achieve their goals. He always knew he wanted to be a strength coach because of his love of strength training and sports. Zack enjoys spending time outdoors hiking, running and more.

Great Mental Performance Training Workshop we had this week. Thank you everyone for coming out!
Jenna taught on the importance of motivation and your mentality. It is important to know WHY you show up to train and WHY you compete. Knowing your why will help you grow and overcome distractions, challenges, and burn out.

It’s important to start with the basics. Before lifting heavy weights, you must develop an understanding of basic form.
Here are some key tips when performing a deadlift. Make sure your feet are shoulder width apart, chest is big, squeeze your shoulder blades, push your heels through the ground, finish tall, and keep that same form as you lower the weight to softly kiss the ground. Maintaining good form will help prevent injury and promote muscle growth.
Meet Amelec. He has been training at Speed and Strength University for 6 years! Amelec currently plays football at Northern Arizona University. It has been such a joy to coach him and watch him grow stronger over the years.

Meet our Mental Skills Coach, Jenna. She’s served on active duty for the Arizona Army National Guard for the past 13 years and is currently a Drill Sergeant. In addition to that, she works with collegiate athletes in a Doctoral program and is working on becoming a certified mental performance consultant.
She will be coaching about the importance of mental performance training. Thoughts and emotions are two integral factors of performance. With this mental skills training, you will learn how to manage these two key factors to improve your performance. Certain skills we will be practicing include Self-Talk, Mental Toughness, Imagery and Visualization, and Overcoming Performance Errors. Learning these skills will help you obtain and maintain maximum performance.

Meet Coach Q. Quinton started training at Speed and Strength University when he was just a sophomore in high school. Now, he is going into his senior year at CSU Pueblo. He plays wide receiver on the football team and is earning his degree in Exercise Science. Quinton brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from being a current college athlete.
When he is not playing football or studying, Quinton enjoys bowling with his friends and playing Madden. He also loves hiking with his family and binge-watching TV shows on the weekend. We are so excited to have Coach Q with us for the next month!
