Someone asked me if carbon-plated shoes are worth it for slower marathoners.
Maybe.
But before spending $300 trying to find free speed, I’d focus on the things that will make a much bigger difference:
Be consistent with your running.
Do your long runs.
Strength train.
Practice your fueling.
Prioritize sleep and recovery.
Once you’ve nailed those things, then it might be worth looking at carbon-plated shoes.
The basics aren’t flashy, but they’re what actually make you a better runner.

Broken Top is an extinct stratovolcano near Bend.
Lots of scrambling, a ridiculously windy ridge, and some great views from the summit.
About 14 miles with just over 4,000 feet of climbing. Definitely one I’d recommend if you’re in Central Oregon.
This is the best way to wipe off your sweat this summer….SHABANG
This is exactly what I mean when I talk about cross-training.
A lot of runners think cross-training has to be biking, swimming, or the elliptical.
It doesn’t.
River surfing challenges your balance, coordination, strength, and gets your body moving in a completely different way than running.
And maybe most importantly, it’s fun.
Most of us aren’t professional athletes. The best cross-training is often the one you actually enjoy enough to do consistently.
One of the best summit days I’ve had.
A lot of snow, a few sketchy sections, and perfect visibility from the top.
You could see volcanoes from Washington all the way into California.
Definitely worth the 11 hour hike .
As a Wilderness First Responder, I’m a big fan of being overprepared.
Most mountain days go exactly as planned.
The problem is the ones that don’t.
That’s why I always bring extra layers, extra food, extra water, backup navigation, and a few things I hopefully never need.
And yes, Aubrey gets her own gear too.
What would you add to the list?
Pretty cool to see this filling in.
A couple years ago, Send It Sports Performance was just an idea.
Now I get to work with runners from all over the country, helping them stay healthy, train consistently, and chase goals that matter to them.
Whether you’ve been with me for two years or two weeks, thanks for trusting me to be part of your journey.
Let’s keep adding states.
This morning I had every excuse not to work out.
I had already driven 12 hours, had another 7 hours ahead of me, and kept telling myself I’d just do it later.
But I know how that story usually ends.
The longer you put something off, the easier it becomes to keep putting it off.
So I got it done.
A quick run and workout while car camping.
If I waited until later, I probably wouldn’t have done it.
To be fair, AI and running apps can be helpful.
But they don’t know when your work stress is through the roof, when your kid kept you up all night, when that “little ache” has been getting worse for three weeks, or when you’re about to do something stupid because you’re excited about a race.
Most runners don’t need a perfect plan.
They need the right plan for them, adjusted by someone who can see what they can’t.
That’s where a coach comes in.
Running has taken me to places I never thought I'd go.
Not just different cities, states, and countries, but experiences, friendships, and challenges I never would have had otherwise.
It's also a big part of why I started coaching.
I want to help everyday runners stay healthy, run without pain, and have the confidence to chase goals that once felt out of reach.
Because running isn't just about running.
Sometimes it takes you places you never thought you'd go.
