We will be opening tomorrow! Stage 2 still in place so no fires allowed even in the campgrounds.
The Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests has rescinded the full forest closure, effective at 8:00AM, July 7th. Stage II Fire Restrictions will remain in place. Under Stage II restrictions, fires (including charcoal and briquettes) are prohibited on all National Forest lands. Smoking is also prohibited forest-wide except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area at least 3 feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of any flammable material.
Stoves or grills that are solely fueled by pressurized liquid petroleum or pressurized liquid petroleum gas (LPG) fuels are allowable. Generators with approved spark arresting devices are also permitted in areas that are barren or cleared of any flammable material at least 3 feet around the generator.
We received official word that Apache - Sitgreaves is going in full forest closure Thursday at 6am. This is not a fire closure, there is no fire in the Big Lake area, this is just a forest closure. This includes all designated hosted campgrounds. So Big Lake Campgrounds, Hoyer Campground, East Fork Campgrounds, and Luna Lake Campground. Evacuations of these campgrounds will start tomorrow morning and everyone must be out by 5pm tomorrow. We do not know how long this closure will last, they are waiting for significant amount of moisture before releasing the closure. We will be issuing reservation cancellations in week blocks until we get word on when we can reopen. You can always cancel your own reservation at anytime at Recreation.gov. You can call our office at 928-537-8888 for more information.
Please pray for rain, our firefighters, our communities, and the local small businesses that will be struggling during this difficult time. It is a hard situation for all.
Big Lake Campgrounds are open with fire restrictions in place. Also open is Winn campground, Hoyer Benny Creek, Luna Lake, and all the campgrounds on East Fork.
The Apache-Sitgreaves has implemented some forest closures. Our campgrounds in the Big Lake area, Greer and Alpine area are not affected. They will remain open for the time being with fire restrictions in place.

We apologize for not posting through the whole emergency. Our corporate office was put on pre evacuation notice due to this fire so we have been busy securing our property. What we know now is the fire crews have done an amazing job in securing the fire line and though we may not be totally out of the woods yet, its looking much better! The only closure we have is HWY 60. You can still come up to the White Mountains using 260 from Phoenix. Big Lake is still open and beautiful with no threat from the fire burning near Show Low. You can make reservations for Big Lake at recreation.gov

Big Lake is ice free and the fishing is good. The only way to access Big Lake is the 249 road from Alpine, but this road still has some snow packed on it. Roads surrounding Big Lake may be snow/ice pack and muddy. Use caution. Highways 273 and 261 are still closed with large impassable snow drifts. This photo was taken near Lee Valley Lake.
