Come and browse or just to chat about the magic of plants this morning at the Chapel Hill Farmers Market !
💚 This is the debut of our first (of many) Ecoprinted paper goodies! After much experimentation, I’ve found a method and mordant mix I LOVE (look at those colors!) and am so excited to share these with you all!
🌸 And back for the first time since Shakori Hills in May (so I’m a little behind- ha!)…Ecoprinted bamboo headbands!

✨ And speaking of Shakori Hills GrassRoots Fest — we’re so excited to be back there for the FALL festival in just a few weeks!! 🥳

We had such a fun time ecoprinting cotton aprons this morning at the ChathamNC Arts Center! What a lovely group of humans— as usual creating beauty and joy in ways I never could have imagined doing myself! I love teaching and always learn so much!

🍃 So excited for my upcoming classes at the Arts Center with the spectacular Dolly Sickles who will teach linoleum block cutting and printing followed by me guiding flower pounding (on watercolor paper) and in the autumn, same idea but steam ecoprinting on cotton/linen wall hangings!

💚 If you missed the workshop but really really need an apron for yourself or as a gift, I’ll be selling these, Ecoprinted with botanicals grown right here on my little farm in Pittsboro, throughout the late summer and through the holidays! ✨ Only a couple more days to sign-up for my last ecoprinting workshop of the summer!
💚 We’ll be gathering at the Chatham County Parks, Rec and Cultural Resources’ awesome ARTS CENTER in Pittsboro!
🌻 I’ll bring everything needed (though students can bring leaves from home if they’d like as well!) and folks will go home with their unique, flower and leaf-printed cotton apron!

You all know how much I adore fabric, but I started thinking more and more of the possibilities with different kinds of paper!
💚 I, unfortunately, did not have a positive experience when I took an in-person class recently on ecoprinting with paper (note to teachers—bullying students about perceived medical conditions is not cool at all).
🌸 But it turns out that much of how we Ecoprint with fabric translates to paper— kind of like the proximity of the various Romance languages! You still need to learn new things and think about some things differently, but same family!
🌻 A few of these were from prints that I steamed between wood “tiles” (it’s what I had on-hand and they fit in my long, narrow fish poaching pan- ha!) and the others I did with my big clamshell iron press!
🌸 I’m cutting these “trading card” ones to have at markets and festivals in an adorable cardboard trading card dispensing machine! I’ll show you that later (and hope I can find the artist who kindly shared it on their reel so I can credit them!)!
✨ What do you think? Are folks curious to see the process? It’s so much faster than fabric, so a wonderful way to create a whole different category of botanical creations even when I haven’t had days to scour and mordant! 😍

Some of you who have known me on here for 6 years or so might remember the time I rolled up to a bar soap making class out in the woods (1 hour from my home and supplies) and was in the middle of making a batch of soap with the students when I realized I had brought the wrong kind of lye…the one used for LIQUID soap making! I guess one big ol’ SNAFU every 5-6 years isn’t too bad of a record, but ugh!

Well, this time, I was so organized, ahead of the game even— showered, dressed, all materials and supplies packed, fresh flowers and leaves harvested and ready to go and I was on-track to get to the class venue an hour early to setup in a state of utter relaxation and calm…

Only to learn that I had the time WRONG! Like..2 HOURS wrong and the students were waiting for me (and some had already left)! Cold sweat doesn’t even begin to describe it!

A huge thank you to the folks who were able to wait and create their beautiful colorants and a bigger apology to those who weren’t able to!

Whew! As usual- late to the post! 🤣 Had an amazing time at festival last weekend (and promptly got taken down by a nasty cold, hence the late post)!

I was so happy to see some local friends and make new ones + meet new creative folks like the wonderful Etoile ! I was being my usual geeky self, gushing about my flower pounding on wood projects and how I’ve been waiting impatiently for my first suitable dye flowers to bloom. A few decided to show their pretty pink faces last weekend and I had some beautiful maple pocket flower press plates (thank you, ) mordanted and ready to go! Just LOOK at that wood burning magic Etoile shared with me! I’m excited to try again (no hard nibs this time)! But in the meantime, lots of flower pounding on wood happening here now that the flowers are arriving!

Hope everyone who adopted some of my Ecoprinted goodies or dried flower creations enjoys them and loves wrapping themselves in flowers! 🌸
