I was honored to coach some of law enforcement’s finest this past week.
I had the privilege of representing Krav Maga Worldwide Force Division while coaching an intensive five-day Defensive Tactics / Use-of-Force Train-the-Trainer Program. The course was physically and mentally demanding, designed to challenge experienced officers and instructors—and this group rose to that challenge.
Officers traveled from multiple states to participate, but this course was especially memorable because we had the distinct honor of welcoming Chief Inspector Toshi from the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department in Japan.
A special thank-you to the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police for welcoming Chief Toshi and giving him an opportunity to ride alongside Pittsburgh officers and spend time with the Special Response Unit (SRU).
His observations reinforced something many of us already know: American police officers routinely face incredibly complex, unpredictable, and difficult situations. With genuine admiration and emotion, Chief Toshi spoke about the courage, professionalism, and composure he witnessed from Pittsburgh officers and his respect for American law enforcement as a whole.
For me, that was one of the most meaningful moments of the week.
Different states. Different countries. Different uniforms. But a common commitment to professionalism, training, service, and protecting others.
I am proud of every officer who accepted the challenges we placed in front of them this week and continued to learn, adapt, and improve.
Train hard. Stay humble. Keep learning. And always strive to be better for the people you serve.
It was an honor to coach you.
