Technique needs context!

It’s not enough to just teach a technique. Players need to know when and why to use a specific skill.

Here, boys at our North site in Butler are shown the steps to create separation for a shot, and then placed in an unopposed environment — but one that provides context — in order to train it.

Hopefully these moments translate to some game-winners this fall!

This moment came at the end of the 2011 SC Boys Academy Academy season.

But the preparation to be ready for any moment like that begins now, in the fall. And our leaders within each team are already setting the standards in their training sessions.

We’re excited for all of our teams beginning their 2026/2027 journeys NOW. Let’s go!

One of the main values at our club is connection. Connection between teammates but also connection up and down our pyramid.

That means when some of our U9 Foundation Phase boys wander over to the Men’s First Team, curious about the rondos, they get invited in.

Thirty passes later, their connection with the club and each other is that much deeper. 💙💛

With each new year, it’s about building culture and setting standards.

We expect our players to take a lot of responsibility for their development. While we provide ideas and direction, the players who really excel are the ones who can hold themselves — and those around them — to the right standard.

Week 1 in the books and the 5v5 culture stays strong 💪

The players can feel it when they’re in it: 5v5 keeps them engaged, provides more actions and allows for seeing game-like situations more often than larger-sided matches.
