Earlier this summer, Nate from Harmar Bait said there was a customer who wanted some custom 10’s done up for an upcoming trip. Mr. T body with a white tail instead of the stock gold. I’m happy to take on any weird requests like this and did. Delivered the baits to the shop, never actually met the customer and then never heard back all summer. It’s not uncommon- sometimes people feel uncomfortable reaching out, sometimes people think I don’t care, sometimes people don’t want to spill the beans, sometimes people just flat out don’t like or understand the baits and feel bad saying it to my face. I figured it was just any of the above and kinda forgot about it.

Then a couple weeks ago, to my surprise under a random Facebook post, my mystery man showed up with some awesome news! Kevin Brown had a heck of a trip and a knockout report waiting for me. Check it out in Kevin’s own words. Congrats to him and a huge thank you!

This is a good time to reiterate: any question, any comment, any concern, idea, request, fish pic or fish story…whatever it may be…don’t hesitate to reach out. I’m here, I don’t bite, and I want to know everything going on with ‘em! 🤠🌻

Clip from a Chattertramp gator. Finding that the best results, just like fishing them bladeless, are coming from an erratic retrieve. Going to do my best this coming week to get these locked and loaded for the website. Chat soon. 🤠🌻

And here’s the one I was after! The final fish of the inaugural day testing the Chatter Tramp 8. Of course in what else but Gold Shiner/White.

And what a dandy she was. My second largest ever, on anything, anywhere.

My Swedish and Canadian buddies poke fun at me for my US pike obsession, and maybe even at this fish…but they really don’t get a whole lot bigger down here! I hold this fish as highly as any big musky or PB I’ve ever caught. A really special fish on some special baits! 🤠🌻

Another quality gator from the inaugural day of testing the Chatter Tramp 8. We still haven’t made it to the real boss hog yet, but this three footer was absolutely furious at the Chatter Tramp and kicked my butt on a MH musky setup. Apparently kicked someone else’s butt recently too, because she came with a souvenir! 🤠🌻

Taking a quick break from the pike mayhem to talk about another first musky! This time, John Strate with the honors! You can read exactly how it all went down in John’s words too. Doesn’t get much cooler than getting emails like this. Congrats to John, and sorry for being an enabler of the newfound addiction!

Something funny and ironic is that when I started making these baits a few years back, I kind of thought it would be an “intermediate/expert” level bait. That is, I thought it would take quite a bit of experience to think about, understand, rig, and fish a bait that doesn’t always come premade. I could tell by the reaction of some of my friends at the time that my demographic would probably be guides, really experienced musky and pike guys, etc.

Then something funny happened and is still happening. The guides and “pros”, for the most part, ignored and still ignore them. They know we’re here. They’ve known since day one. But they pretend we’re not. Some only fish their sponsors stuff, and I don’t play that game. Some write them off and talk down on them as being too complex, too much work, “not for musky fishing”, too this too that.

While the new guys…the new guys have absolutely kicked ass. These baits are now responsible for so many first musky that I’d have to go back in the archives to get a true count. While the “big shots” pretty consistently turn their back, the new guys who have never fished for musky before are out there becoming better fishermen. Using their brain, understanding and sometimes RIGGING their own bait, going out, and catching their first musky.

And if I had to pick just one- I’m picking my new guys like John, every day of the week! Go challenge yourself, don’t ever feel stupid asking questions, and trust that Tramp! 🤠🌻

We have a lot to talk about…so much so that I’m a little overwhelmed with where to begin. Some new bait news, an epic pike day, multiple first musky. I’m still collecting stories on the musky so we’ll start here. The first official day throwing and testing the “Chatter Tramp” on some trophy pike. And boy did they show up. This, believe it or not, is the fourth largest of a slew of big gators who came out to play. An 8” Gold Shiner/White with a 5/8 oz Screwball and chatter blade was the ticket all day long.

A beyond promising “debut” of that attachment and now begins the work. I’m hoping to have the Chatter Balls available sooner than later. I’ll let everyone know when there’s a firm date there.

There’s a lot more to show and tell. Chat soon. 🤠🌻

Zack’s back! Zack Hellenbrand with another stud from the bank, this time on the Big Dave’s Fav 8”. The feedback I’m getting from Zack is so awesome and the quality of fish he’s catching right out of the gate is seriously impressive. Can’t wait to see what he does in time with these things.

Bank fishing is one of the big things I had in mind when I originally dreamt up this idea and these baits. In the US, most of our musky stuff is pre-rigged and pre-weighted for open water situations. Even the “shallow” stuff. The situations you find yourself in, out in a windy deep lake in a boat, are MUCH different than the situations you find yourself in fishing a calm creek or stream from the bank. We’re talking feet of water versus sometimes inches. And I wanted a bait that I could effectively rig to fish in either scenario. Seeing stuff like what Zack and other bank yankers are doing…on top of alllll the big fish from boats in big water scenarios…lets me know that mission might’ve been accomplished! 🤠🌻✅

Zack Hellenbrand what I’m pretty sure is the biggest customer fish to date and one of the only 50’s I’m aware of outside of my little immediate circle of buddies I fish with. Even accounting for all of our big ones, too, I think this is still a top ten fish at this point in Tramp history unless someone is holding out on me somewhere.

8” ICP. Zack said he wants to “throw away” his other swimbaits now after trying these. That’s a round of feedback I’ll take! 🤣 Congrats Zack on a special one and thank you for tossing the Tramps! 🤠🌻

I demonstrate this at shows and in the last couple weeks I’ve talked about it multiple times directly with a few customers. I figured with a lot of new faces on board, a quick video wouldn’t hurt. How to install/remove your “Rig Keeper”.

Your Rig Keeper is the little pin thingy on the 8-12” rigging. It holds your Stinger wire to the bait’s belly. Its purpose is to make for neater/more streamlined rigging as well as adding and distributing anchor points for the rigging. For you, this means the rigging “holds” better with less fussing and re-poking everything in.

It’s made from a much softer wire for a few reasons, and it CAN be since it’s not a weight-bearing part of the rigging during a fight. The main reason I chose to make them from the soft wire is that you can really bend and finesse it in whatever way you see best to hold your rigging to the bait, especially as time goes on. But being a soft wire, that means sometimes they can get mangled or even break after a lot of bending. Replacing them is as easy as a pinch of the split ring pliers. That’s reason number two it’s such a soft wire…makes this part as easy as it gets!

Sold by the five pack and not a bad thing to keep in the terminal box for repairing those rigs after a big day.🤠🌻
