Don’t forget about our new location for tonight’s For the Love of Bachata Summer Bash!

We are using the riverside tent instead of the pavilion this month. It offers a new views and a playground next to the tent, making this a truly family friendly event!

It’s inside the same park we love (Allegheny RiverTrail Park), just a short walk further into the park from the parking lot.

If you choose a leisurely pace, it will be about 3 minutes. If you’ve got some pep in your step, it will take even less!

(My walk into some venues from street parking is about the same tbh!)

FTLOB SUMMER BASH - SUNDAY, JULY 12TH
6pm - Merengue workshop
7-9:30pm social dancing, Dominoes, and Dominican food by Ilianascatering Pgh

Sunset will be at 8:50pm - be prepared for a gorgeous view!!

Tonight at 6pm I’m teaching a new Bachata workshop: Surviving Fast Music and Crowded Dance Floors

If you’ve ever suffered trying to keep up to a fast song, felt overly tired after dancing, or felt limited by a tight dance floor, this is the workshop for you.

We’ll maximize your flavor and fun while providing real strategies that you can implement instantly on the social dance floor.

Stick around after class to enjoy dinner and dancing until 11pm!

Event: Vibras Sunset at the Boathouse
Time: 5pm-11pm
Location: Steel City Rowing Club, Verona (Pittsburgh)
More info: Steel City Kizomba

PS if you have a full pass for tonight, keep your wristband on tomorrow to get $5 off the workshop at the FTLOB Summer Bash!

There is a reason this will be Edwin’s 9th time teaching at For the Love of Bachata. 🔥

He has been one of the most-influential teachers and mentors to me personally thanks to his immense talent, genuine care, and pure love for sharing dance and music.

The work he has done with his dance partner, Dakhóta, with whom Areito Arts was formed in 2018, has kept the international dance scene rooted to the culture, history, and music of Bachata in important ways.

(I shudder to imagine what the dance scene would look like without their critical contributions!!)

They have impacted countless dancers and inspired many of today’s instructors and organizers worldwide.

And in just 2 weeks, you can learn from this dynamic duo right here in Pittsburgh!!

Come expand your Merengue skills with me this Sunday, July 12th at 6pm!

This month, I’ll be de-mystifying some of the sub-genres of Merengue and helping you adapt your movement to their various energies and feelings.

Did you know…?
- Merengue is Dominican 🇩🇴
- It’s been around 3x as long as Bachata and Salsa.
- Like Bachata, it used to be associated with the lower class, until dictator Rafael Trujillo made it the national music and dance in the 1930s.
- There are many famed origin stories of Merengue, but none are able to be confirmed.
- It is most likely that Merengue and the Mereng (from Haiti) are related, making Merengue and Konpa cousins. ❤️
- Merengue is best known in the DR for being pure joy in music and dance form.

SUNDAY, JULY 12th
6pm - Merengue workshop
7-9:30pm social dancing, dominoes, Dominican food by Ilianascatering Pgh , and gorgeous river & sunset views

$20 workshop + social, $10 social only
Have a full pass to Vibras at the Boathouse on Saturday? Get $5 off the workshop at FTLOB when you wear your Vibras wristband.

Location: Allegheny RiverTrail Park, 285 River Ave off Freeport Rd in Aspinwall (Pittsburgh) Allegheny RiverTrail Park

Please note: we are using the white event tent inside the park, NOT the pavilion. Follow the walking trail from the parking lot towards the river. Or just follow the music! 🎶

This location offers two playgrounds, public restrooms, ample parking, access via PRT, beautiful walking trails, a dog park, kayak rentals, and so much more.

Park members can get this event free when they show their member card.

Come with me to El Son de Antonio Keka

I visited this well-known, weekly street party with my friend Mette .on.a.journey of . We showed up early to ensure we got good seats, because we both knew we wanted to dance.

Coming early as we did, I was able to observe how the team that keeps this event going greeted each other and others with such warmth and enthusiasm, you’d think they didn’t see each other so often.

But no, this event has been going on every Sunday afternoon since the 1970s.

Another thing that stood out was how welcoming they were, from helping us find seats, to inviting us to dance, to a clear broadcast of community values, to one of Antonio Keka’s sons gifting us booklets written about his father and the birth of El Son de Antonio Keka.

I greatly enjoyed my experience at and hope to visit again soon!

Big thanks to .rd for a great experience!

I visited this social with my friends .on.a.journey and of , and we happened to be in Santiago the weekend of Ei Sitio’s 1st anniversary party.

There was a theme of dressing like you’re from the campo (countryside), which is why you see the straw hats and other accessories that are symbols of the DR’s rural past.

I had a wonderful time at Ei Sitio and already look forward to my next visit! 🙏🏻❤️‍🔥
