SCHEDULE UPDATE: I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Explosive Demolition Tomorrow in Pittsburgh, Edgewood

The explosive demolition for the Commercial Street Bridge is scheduled to occur between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM today. An additional update will be provided via email when the explosion is expected to occur within a 30-minute timeframe.

To prioritize safety first, the public is encouraged to view the explosive demolition via the live feed camera displaying the Commercial Street Bridge on the Commercial Street Bridge webpage or the specialized 511PA webpage at https://www.511pa.com/map/page/CommercialStBridge. The camera will run live through the closure of the bridge.

As a reminder, the security perimeter has an 800-feet radius surrounding the work site that the public should stay outside of during the 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM time frame. An incident management team will check the perimeter with personnel and drones. If anyone is found within the blast zone, this will delay the explosion.

I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Explosive Demolition Tomorrow in Pittsburgh, Edgewood

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing the explosive demolition of the I-376 (Commercial Street Bridge) in Edgewood Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will occur Wednesday, July 15 weather permitting.

The explosive demolition of the current I-376 bridge between the Squirrel Hill Tunnel and the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) interchange is anticipated to occur between 1:00 PM and 9:00 PM Wednesday. As details develop, more information on the timing will be provided.

The explosive process will only occur after crews and emergency personnel have cleared the blast radius on the ground and in the air and have declared the zone safe for explosion.

Residents in the area may proceed as usual in and around their homes. However, please be advised of a loud sound during the explosion and anticipate additional dust afterwards.

The public can view the explosive demolition from a safe distance via the live feed camera displaying the Commercial Street Bridge on the Commercial Street Bridge webpage or the specialized 511PA webpage at https://www.511pa.com/map/page/CommercialStBridge. The camera will run live through the closure of the bridge.

South Braddock Avenue Phase Change in Edgewood, Swissvale

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing a phase change on South Braddock Avenue in Edgewood and Swissvale boroughs, Allegheny County has been implemented.

To assist with the flow of traffic as part of the detour route for the Commercial Street Bridge closure and to allow crews to continue to work on the I-376 bridge overhead, South Braddock Avenue is now in the following traffic configuration around-the-clock through early August:

• Southbound South Braddock Avenue has been reduced to a single-lane of traffic between Allenby Avenue and Monongahela Avenue.
• Northbound South Braddock Avenue has two lanes of traffic between Monongahela Avenue and Allenby Avenue.

Additionally, the off-ramp from westbound I-376 to Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) is now in the following configuration through early August:

• The left-hand lane at the end of the ramp will continue to allow traffic to turn left onto southbound South Braddock Avenue.
• The right-hand lane will only allow traffic to turn right onto northbound South Braddock Avenue. No left turns will be permitted from the right-hand lane.

Various Restrictions Begin Monday Night in Preparation for I-376 Commercial Street Bridge Closure in Allegheny County

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is announcing restrictions on various roads between Churchill Borough and the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, will begin Monday night, July 6 weather permitting.

Starting Monday night, a single lane closure on I-376 in each direction will occur between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) and Churchill (Exit 79B) interchanges from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night through Thursday night. Crews will conduct preparatory work for the anticipated I-376 Commercial Street Bridge closure on Friday, July 10.

Once the bridge closes, I-376 will be reduced to a single lane of traffic in each direction between the Edgewood/Swissvale (Exit 77) and Wilkinsburg (Exit 78B) interchanges until the bridge reopens in early August.

Additionally, beginning at approximately 9:00 PM Monday night, long-term lane closures will be implemented continuously around-the-clock in preparation for the bridge closure and detour setup in the following locations:
• Route 30 (Ardmore Boulevard) in each direction between Morrow Road to Brinton Road
• The Boulevard of the Allies in each direction between McDevitt Place and the Boulevard of the Allies slip ramp from Fifth Avenue.

Once the bridge closes, these lane closures will remain in place until the bridge reopens in early August. Please note: The ramp from the Boulevard of the Allies to westbound I-376 will remain open to traffic during the bridge closure.
