The City of Pittsfield invites the community to a special event, “Farewell to the Grandstand, Hello to the Future of Wahconah Park,” on Saturday, April 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the historic Wahconah Park.
The gathering will give residents, fans, and community members a chance to celebrate decades of memories connected to the beloved ballpark while also learning about plans for the park’s future.
Attendees will have the opportunity to record short video memories at a dedicated video booth with Shaun Laframboise from Right Light Productions. These one- to two-minute recordings will help preserve the community’s connection to the ballpark for future generations.
A large screen will also display a continuous slideshow of both historic photographs and community-shared memories of Wahconah Park, offering a visual tribute to the park’s storied past.
Guests can also enjoy complimentary popcorn and water served from the front concession stand. Local vendor, Ernie Jordan of Grampie’s Dog House, will also be at the event offering classic ballpark hot dogs for purchase.
Several activity stations will be available throughout the park:
⚾Memory Table: Visitors can write their favorite Wahconah Park memories on baseball-shaped cards that will be displayed along the fence line.
⚾Berkshire Baseball Table: Featuring historic ballpark memorabilia and ephemera.
⚾Future Grandstand Renderings Table: A look at concepts for the next chapter of Wahconah Park.
Attendees will also have a limited opportunity to get a last look at the existing grandstand from the top of the ramp and no further due to safety concerns. The program will conclude with a short speaking portion beginning at 2:30 p.m., featuring remarks from Mayor Peter Marchetti, Park Commissioner, Cliff Nilan, and Director of Baseball in the Berkshires Inc., Larry Moore.
