Over the weekend, Team BCSO was honored to take part in the Cops On Top national event by climbing Mt. Greylock, honoring those who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty. Although the event is held to remember those no longer with us, the climb also brings attention to the extreme dangers, stress, and life-altering effects law enforcement officers face on a daily basis. Great job by all and may we never forget.

FLAG SOJOURN 250 ARRIVES IN MASSACHUSETTS
BOSTON – The Massachusetts State House welcomed Flag Sojourn 250 to the Massachusetts State House Hall of Flags on June 12 in conjunction with a special award ceremony honoring women veterans. Flag Sojourn 250 is the journey of one American flag to every U.S. state, every U.S. territory, and every U.S. military cemetery overseas. Flag Sojourn 250 is a project of national unity from the National Flag Foundation (NFF) and America250’s America Waves program, an epic tribute campaign to the greatest American symbol: the American flag.
Members of the Sheriffs’ Honor Guard will transport and present this special flag on behalf of national and local partners, including the National Flag Foundation, America250, MA250, the National Sheriffs’ Association, the Massachusetts Sheriffs’ Association, the Executive Office of Technology Services and Security, the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, UPS, the American Battle Monuments Commission, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Executive Office of Veterans Services.
“The Massachusetts Sheriffs have been serving the public health and safety needs of their communities from the earliest days of our Republic,” said Patrick J. Cahillane, President of the Massachusetts Sheriff’s Association. “That spirit of service is foundational to the office and runs deeper today than ever during our long history. We, the 14 Massachusetts Sheriffs, are honored to participate in the Flag Sojourn 250 and hope that the celebrations of our nation’s founding will remind everyone that service, sacrifice and love of community are among the defining characteristics of being an American.”
The Massachusetts visit began on June 11 with the ceremonial transfer of the Flag Sojourn 250 flag from New Hampshire Sheriff William Wright to the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office. Following the State House ceremony, the flag will continue its journey across the Commonwealth with appearances in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts National Cemetery, the Mayflower II, USS Massachusetts, 9/11 Memorial, and at the Bunker Hill 251st Anniversary commemoration.
